    They protect the witnesses so that they can testify in court. It would become pretty obvious pretty quickly if all of the witnesses were the opposite of protected.

      The tweet is talking about those who get protection even after the trial is complete.

          Sometimes you have to use context clues to extrapolate data. In this case he’s talking about the government killing a witness so we can assume the government wouldn’t do that before the witness has had a chance to testify as that would defeat the purpose of having the witness be protected. Now that they’ve completed their testimony and are being sent to the witness protection program they are of no use so the government kills them.
