Alright, finally watched the episode.
First off: I have never seen a scientist this stupid in any movie. This woman asked to let everything out of containment. I literally jumped up from the couch and shouted “ARE YOU FUCKING STUPID, WOMAN?! WORKING WITH WORLD ENDING PARASITES AND EATING AND DRINKING AT THE DESK YOU BITCH!” I know the writers have to let the aliens loose somehow, but come on! This entire ordeal almost ruined the episode for me. Almost.
Because everything else was amazing. The tension, the horror, the corporate dehumanisation (which somehow hit even harder this episode), the action. Oh the action! Usually not the strong side of the Alien movies, it nailed it here.
When I woke up this morning, I didn’t know I would see an hijacked old man jump the Xenomorph and bite its neck. The Ocellus just became the most badass little shit in the entire franchise. Host body destroyed? Plopp out of the eye socket and jump that phallic fuck again!
Also we finally find out why the Xenomorph was so hyper aggressive in the first episodes. It got embarrassed by a rubber ball with tentacles.
All in all I was very much entertained. The only thing that tarnished an otherwise amazing episode were the humans doing their very best to die. Looking forward to next week for the next episode.
PS: The traitor (forgot his name) said that something planted eggs into his wife’s eye. So, maybe there is some truth to Nibs thinking her being pregnant?
Edit: As an actual prediction for next episode - I think the Ocellus will fuck an Xenomorph Queen while still being inside the sheep. What a horrific, awesome guy.
I worked in pharma research for 11 years of my life before a career switch. Scientists can be very stupid and get very complacent. I completely believe that woman would eat and have open containers because in her observations she never saw intelligence beyond them feeding on live things, and they were contained because the lid was closed.
Design wise, the ocellus was my least favourite, it looks too cartoony, but after this xeno fight it is starting to climb the ranks.
