The Google Pixel 9 has a new Adaptive Touch feature that automatically adjusts its touch sensitivity based on various factors.
Why? I’ve worked on over 1000 phones, and never have I seen a screen protector interfere with touch sensitivity. Not even if it was a redneck packing tape protector on a broken screen.
Now the wet fingers thing makes sense though, but is it really as effective as they claim?
I have, not often, but I have. That being said, Samsung phones have had a similar setting since at least the S7 series.
What specific technical properties enable a display panel to detect touch more sensitively? Is it just software where even smaller touch input is registered?
The feature sounds interesting, but I haven’t had any problems with screen protectors so I don’t know if there is any advantage to it.
