Hmm, it’s not so clear to me what the obvious loophole is. There’s 2 reasonable loopholes that come to mind, but neither strike me as something that Akane would so viscerally react to. (This is not an invitation to explain, as that invites spoilers-camouflaged-as-theory.) The abstract visual does bias me slightly towards one explanation.

Also, the guy at the end… I almost laughed. Maybe that’s intentional, I can’t tell.

I hope you don’t mind that I nicked your screenshot for the lead image.

And the piece of shit makes his appearance for the first time in the anime.

I really love those symbolic animation sequences. They’re so captivating and I’m always impressed by how it communicates the story indirectly.

I understand that non-source readers were a bit confused about the loophole that Akane mentioned this episode as it wasn’t super clear from the visualization they did this episode. However, if you know, then it makes a lot of sense. I think that strikes a good balance. It is the kind of thing that when the reveal happens, people will come back and see that with new eyes and have this feeling like it was all there the whole time.

I have rewatched the murder scene again. And I am totally lost on everything that happened.

    Some thoughts and observations

    a) the one who claims is the father is alive
    b) he is a different person than the murderer
b2) totally forgot about the manipulator
    c) the one with DNA match (murder-suicide) is also totally different person.

So Aqua convinced himself that the murderer & father is already dead. And feels free to pursue happiness.

Akane want’s to support her boyfriend(?) and would try to steer him off from revenge

What is the Truth? What is the Lie? Does objective truth exists, or is it all just a believable fiction fabricated by the human mind?

There are a lot of red herrings and I am all for it.

Yeah, in case it wasn’t clear to people, the person that murdered Ai is not the father, merely a stalker that somebody had been feeding information to. Aqua believes that the informant has to be his father, thus the revenge arc. After Ai’s murder, the stalker ended up committing suicide, so there wasn’t any way to get information about the source of the leaked information.

Kana is great. The whole first part of this episode had just the best reactions. Aqua ended up catching a lot of flack this week for acting like an old man, but it seems to be remarkably effective on these girls. Also, this feels too real:

I feel bad for Akane in this episode. She knows that Aqua has been using her, and she just really wants to be useful to him. However, now that Aqua feels like his mission is accomplished, he is content with letting her go. So, Akane is left with a dilemma. Either she:

    1. Tell Aqua about this loophole that he hasn’t thought of (I won’t get into it yet) that would mean his father is still out there. This would mean that she could still be of use to him, so he will keep her around.
    2. Let’s Aqua enjoy his life free from the burden of revenge. However, this would likely result in Aqua distancing himself from Akane as he doesn’t want to hold her down and wants to let her live her life.

Tough choice Akane! Do you want to burden the person you care about with the thought that their revenge is unfulfilled? Or do you want to lift their burden causing them to drift away from you in the process? Tune in next week to find out!
