An estimated 200 people took part in a neo-Nazi march in Sweden on Saturday, reviving the controversial ‘Salem march’ on the 25th anniversary of the killing of 17-year-old skinhead Daniel Wredström.
Wredström, a nationalist activist, was stabbed to death in 2000 during a confrontation with other teenagers, allegedly of immigrant background, in Salem, in the outskirt of Stockholm.
The killing became a rallying symbol for far-right movements, including Sweden’s largest neo-Nazi group, the Nordic Resistance Movement.
The Salem march was held annually from 2000 to 2011 before gradually fading out. In 2010, the right-wing nationalist party, the Sweden Democrats, also entered parliament.

SPIEGEL: Wie geht man mit dem ewigen Nachteil um, dass die EU so schwerfällig reagiert? Gerade in einer Zeit, in der große Staaten – jetzt auch die USA – zunehmend autoritär durchregieren, während die EU sich endlos einigen muss?
Gawrich: Da wir aus Demokratien bestehen, wird es nicht anders gehen. Wenn wir legitimitätsbasierte Entscheidungen haben möchten, die von der EU ausgehandelt und von den nationalen Parlamenten abgesegnet worden sind, dann sind wir langsamer. Im Fall einer Notlage kann die EU jederzeit Sondergipfel einberufen und sich über einen ersten Fahrplan einigen und schnelle Entscheidungen treffen.
Dass sie, stellvertretend für die EU, nicht mehr dazu zu sagen hat finde ich traurig.
Das hier hört sich gut an. Ich hoffe sie hat recht:
Nachdem der ukrainische Präsident Wolodymyr Selenskyj im Februar von Trump aus dem Oval Office geworfen wurde, hat die EU militärpolitisch und sicherheitspolitisch eine große Schippe draufgelegt. Danach hat die EU-Kommission konkrete Instrumente für engere europäische Kooperationen und die Intensivierung von Rüstungsprojekten bereitgestellt. Das wird es den Mitgliedstaaten vergleichsweise schnell ermöglichen, sich besser gemeinsam militärisch zu entwickeln.
Interessant:
Vermutlich werden wir in Zukunft auch sehen, dass jene Staaten, die wollen, sich tiefer integrieren, und jene, die nicht wollen, eher am Rand bleiben. Eine variable Integration, vielleicht ein Europa der drei, vier oder fünf Geschwindigkeiten. Wir kennen das ja schon durch den Euro. Der ist der beste Beweis für variable Integration, weil manche mitmachen und andere nicht.
Recht so:
Obwohl die Autokratien unsere Schwachstellen gut zu kennen und auszunutzen scheinen, etwa durch hybride Attacken und Desinformation, ist unsere gesellschaftliche Kenntnis der autokratischen Gegner der EU viel zu gering. Das birgt das Risiko, dass wir naiv gegenüber den Gefahren sind und uns nicht hinreichend um unsere eigene Stärke als Demokratie und unsere Resilienz bemühen.
SPIEGEL: Das ist leider ein Narrativ, das eher auf Angst als auf Optimismus oder Stärke basiert.
Gawrich: Ich würde das eher begründete Sorge als Angst nennen. Wichtig ist doch, dass die aktuelle geopolitische Lage die funktionierende Kooperation der EU-Staaten erfordert, um Wohlstandsverluste zu vermeiden. Dass wir in der EU politisch streiten und Kompromisse aushandeln, sollte eigentlich als normal gelten. Aber es stimmt, die Sorgen um den Erhalt der Stabilität in Europa sind sehr groß.
