As a Canadian i think there’s a little confusion here because the roles universities play are a bit different here vs the US. I went to uni and I don’t remember extremely biased teachings myself, and I studied economics.

The person in the original post who said “for enjoyment” was trying to counteract that kind of rhetoric, and to respond with “for gaining then” is fucking asinine – and I’ll admit I responded emotionally, but I’ve been bombarded with subtle, plausibly deniable jabs about food like this my Entire. Additionally, to judge food on whether its purpose is for gaining and losing weight is some eating-disorder-ass shit, which I have no fucking tolerance for. Food is neutral and holds no moral implications, and its purposes extend to fuel and enjoyment, exclusively.

If you are part of the owning class, you aren’t “earning” your wage. You are skimming the surplus value created by your employees and calling it “profit”

Capitalism not only encourages exploitation, but requires it. The whole purpose of capitalism is amassing capital, maximization of profit, and the way to do this is through taking the surplus value created by employees.

For example, when a car is created, raw materials go in and are assembled (at least in part) by people. The value created by turning those raw materials into a car is created by the employees that turned it into a car. The difference between the fair market value of that car and the raw materials put in is the value added by the worker.

If we were to actually pay these workers what they are worth, by the value they added to that car, there would be no profit. But because capitalism incentivises maximization of profit, the owning class pays you a wage that is always less than that value added, and they have incentive to make that wage as small as you are willing to take, after all, you can’t build the car yourself because you do not own the means of production

And therein lies the fundamental problem of capitalism. He who owns the means of production has the power.

Editing to add: If the workers owned the means of production, then there would be no reason for the owning (billionaire) class to exist – because they don’t actually do anything, they just own things.

Poverty wages are not evidence of a broken system, they are evidence that the system is working exactly as intended. We need an economic system that does not incentivize profit, period.

Ice has no calories and takes up a lot of space in smoothies. Again, ive made smoothies like this so many times and theyre delicious. Smoothies do not have to be huge – i understand when you’re purchasing one they tend to have more stuff in them to get the value you’re paying, but homemade smoothies tend to be about a cup or so, plus ice.

To get mathy:

All of those add up tp roughly 1.1cup without ice

1.1cup translates to 312ml

1 can of soda, beer, whatever is 355ml (diff is 43ml)

If you put ice in a glass, you can easily fill it with a can.

If you add a decent amount of ice to the smoothie, it’ll be a very reasonably sized smoothie. It may not fill a pint glass, but I do not want to drink that much smoothie lol

Not every smoothie has a bunch of added sugar. I’ve literally made smoothies like this before. That’s how I know. How often do you track calories, my dude?

You don’t understand what I said then. You do not know the necessary information to make the judgement on whether this will make a person gain weight: you do not know

• the ingredients in the smoothie (could be fuckin yogurt, milk and berries for all you know, which could be like 100-200kcal)

Or

• the amount of calories that person has or will burn that day (if they are in a caloric deficit higher than the calories in the smoothie, it will not cause weight gain)

The existence of calories don’t automatically cause weight gain, excess calories cause weight gain.

Fascist governments will always find ways to imprison dissenters, this is just one way they do so – they’ve been treating those trying to track ICE agents as if they are “violent extremists”
