The Invisible Internet Project@lemmy.world•An alternative name system for I2P: XNSEnglish
1·3 days agoI get what you’re saying, but the rule is basically just there to not turn the channel into a crypto-ad channel. If you’re making something for/in I2P that somehow touches the crypto space, but that’s not the focus of it then I’m OK with it being posted. I’d be happy to update the rule to something more suitable if you can help me come up with something.

Europe@feddit.org•Sweden’s IF Metall ends Tesla strike after carmaker buys out union membersEnglish
11·5 days agoA temporary victory I think. What Musk is trying to upend is the entire Swedish model. I don’t see unions giving up on this, and neither will responsible companies I think, it’s s model that has served us well for over 100 years.

Europe@feddit.org•75% of European businesses fear a US tech Kill Switch as much as a ransomware attack — switching off US cloud and services could deal an economic death blow, with sovereign alternatives neededEnglish
10·9 days agoWe thought we were allies. We were, until Trump came along and decided that any leverage should be used to his benefit. That works in the short perspective, but will be a disaster in the long run.
Imagine a marriage where instead of working together, you try to exploit the other person at every opportunity.

It doesn’t look like it’s just about chatbots. And trust me, I hate chatbots as much as the next guy. There should be a law that the first question a company would have to ask is “Would you prefer to speak to a human instead of our chatbot”, and then mandate that anyone utilizing chatbots would, under the penalty of fines, have to have less than 15min waiting time for people going for the human option.

6·9 days agoLet me assure you that it would be much more than “a rough month”. You have no idea how many factories run on US tech. Most would grind to a halt, with no chance of restarting in any reasonable amount of time.

Europe@feddit.org•Poland’s young AI stars take third place in global contestEnglish
21·9 days agoWe’ve had AI for decades and nobody complained. Machine Learning is as old as dirt at this point. Deep Learning is from 1986. Are there things in the current AI hype that won’t live up to the promises, absolutely, but saying that AI isn’t useful is just plain wrong, and Poland doing good in this space is brilliant.
I’d rather have EU-AI than rely on China-AI or US-AI.

Europe@feddit.org•Europe Approves Bionic Eye to Restore Vision Lost to BlindnessEnglish
3·11 days agoTo be fair, the EU doesn’t include all countries in Europe. But honestly, if you hear that “Europe” does something, do you really think that this doesn’t mean the EU?
If someone referenced “America” to me, I’d assume they meant the US and not go “Well, akchually…”

Europe@feddit.org•Europe Approves Bionic Eye to Restore Vision Lost to BlindnessEnglish
2·11 days agoWhat other entity in Europe could collectively decide to approve something? I mean, it’s not 100% ambiguous, but I think it’s pretty safe guess.

Europe@feddit.org•Europe Approves Bionic Eye to Restore Vision Lost to BlindnessEnglish
3·11 days agoSo if there were two vessels and someone said “Look at that big boat”, you’d assume they meant the smaller one because the other was a ship?
Likewise, if someone said “America has a gun problem”, you’re going to assume they mean every single country in both north and south America as a collective?
Seriously?
