The biggest mistake everyone makes is that they watch videos about how to play first. It’s fine to watch a bit to see if you’d even be interested but once you make the call, if you want to be immersed in a game just play it and experience it yourself!
I noticed you mentioned games with strong stories. I tend to play more open ended games but my first suggestion has a stronger narrative and that is The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human.

I had a great time playing this with friends. It reminded me a lot of Wurm Online but is much more approachable than that game while retaining a lot of its depth.
I was well within the top 1% of World of Tanks players, my friends and I were getting scouted by top clans and we played a lot of competitive rounds as well as the normal gameplay most people experienced. We knew the timing of when scouts would/could show up in specific spots on the map, how long it would take artillery to line you up in different places, etc…
It was funny to me that some people thought win rate was essentially random, it really isn’t.
All that to say I knew the game very well and I could describe with intimate detail exactly what was wrong with the game. Honestly my info would be out of date by years now so I’ll spare everyone that and just say the biggest mistake that I know is still in the game: premium ammo. It utterly invalidates armor making entire trees of tanks pointless to play. Was it hilarious the first time we drove a Maus over the front of an IS-3, crushing it? You bet. But the Maus got shelved pretty quick because it kept dying to frontal attacks with premium ammo.
I didn’t play War Thunder at anywhere near that level (gave up once the grind really set in, couldn’t bear to do it again) but I could see a lot of the same problems cropping up.
I focus on games that don’t abuse my time these days.
Arrowhead has lost a lot of respect due to the way they run Helldivers 2 and I say it’s quite deserved. Every time you get a new piece of kit it comes pre-nerfed. New enemies are often so intensely frustrating to play against that people will simply stop fighting them. Old bugs keep returning CONSTANTLY, telling me that their internal version control and review process is not working. If something is fun, they will stealth nerf it and hope we don’t notice.
I have largely stopped playing.
This and World of Tanks have the same degenerative disease. It really sucks when you get maybe one or two good matches out of ten, and then you slowly begin to realize that the very obvious problems you see are not getting fixed and the developers are doing it on purpose. The only winning move after that is not to play.
Stellaris traded away so much of the games soul when they removed the alternate FTL drives.

I agree completely, especially considering the models were trained off human content without our consent collectively or individually. They are ours by all possible interpretations.
I’ve seen purpose built models for things like patent examination and its clear that AI can be incredibly useful. I think if the implementation of AI was not so abusive and destructive people would not be so unwilling to see the good uses.
The amount of times boomers on worksites called me retarded for not knowing how to do something I’d never done before astounded me.
Meanwhile these fuckers would get real butthurt and start yelling and making a fuss when they’d struggle to find a file they just saved on their PC and you do anything besides silently assist them.
I vowed to be different, to teach my people what it means to be competent and respectful. I tell them I expect to see the same level of professionalism and respect I show them going to everyone around them. It’s working! They aren’t coming to work high or hungover, they aren’t being pieces of shit, and they’re communicating with each other instead of yelling insults at each other (well except for when its funny lol).
This has made me unpopular with the boomer leaders but fuck em: we get shit done, we get it done right, nobody gets hurt, and everybody feels respected and doesn’t dread coming to work.
There are so many real issues with AI, but being angry about prototyping with it? That is a completely manufactured outrage by extremists who just hate the whole concept of AI rather than its misuse and mismanagement.
AI should be a public good that belongs to us all, managed, metered, and deployed in a way that is environmentally aware. A lot of good can be done, and has been done. We don’t need AI girlfriends or surveillance, but we could really use it for research, data, prototyping, etc… If you can’t see this then ask some questions about legitimate use cases and I will share what I know.
I don’t care if some guy is prototyping his game with AI assets; that doesn’t matter.
I do care if you try to sell a complete product with no actual art, just slop.
I engage with conservative folks on various subs because I find they are often easier to sway over to materialist lefty thinking than liberals are. Post-GamerGate, doing so got me autobanned from a whole bunch of subreddits, including various feminist, socialist, progressive spaces.
As far as I’m aware no right-wing (or adjacent) sub banned me for being a straight up socialist, including places like conservative and mensrights.
This shit is part of why libs suck and will keep losing.

Max Payne 2 was a much better experience in most ways. I’m not really sure what the appeal of Max Payne 3 is tbh.
It’s a solid rebuttal, especially when talking about cables (even certified cables are often bullshit), BUT USB-C testers are cheap and you can quickly assess which standards are available for a given cable/port combo.
Still the fact that both USB and HDMI boards thought the current situation was appropriate pisses me off.
