  • I’ve said this in an older post on the topic, but as a data protection professional stories like this are a concern.

There are key points we should bear in mind.

    Firstly, Mandelson is a cunt.

Secondly, even though he is a cunt, he hasn’t been charged or convicted of anything (yet).

Thirdly, even if he is, he still has the same rights to privacy as anyone else.

With all that in mind, if I were him I would be suing the shit out of the Cabinet Office and the government for what has been a deliberate breach of his data.

Why did the Cabinet Office still have his recruitment records? They should have been destroyed years ago.

Why did the Cabinet Office still have his personnel files? They should have been destroyed years ago.

Why does the Cabinet office even have records of private, non-work related conversations from years ago, on WhatsApp of all things?

Why does the Cabinet Office think UK GDPR doesn’t apply to them?

  • Where did I say it doesn’t matter?

You’re complaining that people don’t know about something that happened 30 years ago, at a time when they were likely very young or didnt even exist.

Not knowing about every single terrible thing that has ever happened on a particular subject doesn’t mean you don’t care about it.

Without googling I bet you wouldn’t know a thing about Holly Chapman and Jessica Wells in the UK, a double murder that happened over 20 years ago.

    Or who Dawn Sturgess was.

Both pretty big here, the double murder led to significant changes in the law and procedures for data sharing across the UK.

The difference between us is, you not knowing about it doesnt lead me to the insane conclusion that its because you just don’t care about the subject.

  • Fair, but that’s assuming he took it in even amounts, which some of the purchases suggests he didn’t.

And even with that amount of income, I’ve seen her statement where she says it was all his own money, but frankly I don’t believe her.

If you’re married, you will always have a rough idea about how much money you have in shared and individual accounts, and the idea that one of you can go out and spend £60k+ on a motorhome and another £80k+ on cars without having to discuss the purchase beforehand with your spouse isn’t a reality I’m familiar with.

The other stuff? Sure. But rocking up in a brand new electric car just seems a bit much to me. If my wife turned up with a new motorhome my first question would be “where did you get the money from”.
