“Books were only one type of receptacle where we stored a lot of things we were afraid we might forget. There is nothing magical in them, at all. The magic is only in what books say, how they stitched the patches of the universe together into one garment for us.” Professor Faber

  • I did not camp out myself, but I did work a register when some early World of Warcraft expansions came out. People went crazy for them.

I remember one evening we had some Wrath of the Lich King collector’s editions available for the release event and there was a huge rush to get in when they opened the doors. I had this sweet old lady come through my line with one of the big boxes. She was very excited because she bought it for her grandson and she wanted to give him a special gift. She was all smiles.

A few minutes later, I had a guy come through my line. He looked a little flustered and had a regular edition in his hand. He said some old lady ran up, pushed him out of the way, hit him with her purse, then grabbed the last collector’s edition and ran to the front.

Pretty sure my sweet old lady customer was the same one that hit him with her purse lol. It was a weird night.

  • So many good bands in this list, I need to go add these to my mp3 player!

I agree with you (OP). I think maybe remove Nirvana or Devo to add Offspring, but I’d keep Blink182 Dude Ranch because it’s a good album and was one of my earliest purchased punk cds. I still dig Cheshire Cat a bit more though.

I am glad to see Green Day on the list. Dookie came out when I was in 4th grade and it was my intro to everything punk rock, although I bought 1,039/Smooth in ‘94 as my first real cd that wasn’t my parents music. They have been my favorite band ever since.

  • Last year, I actually had a problem with them getting into the house. They were always heading towards the patio door, but since that door was replaced, I don’t get them inside anymore. Now, when I scoop up a handful of soil in the garden bed and I can find 10-20 pill bugs. There are just so many!

Most of my vegetable gardening is in pots or wheeled raised garden beds, my in ground garden bed is only 3ft x 6ft. At least the issue doesn’t affect all of my plants.

I cut down an old tomatillo plant yesterday, I will stick the dead root ball in my garden for the pill bugs to eat. Hoping that between the diatomaceous earth rings around my plants and mulch/old plant cuttings, I can keep them happy and not eating my plants lol

    Such adorably frustrating little cuties!

  • Yes, it’s definitely pill bugs eating the plants. Every morning I find a few along the bottom of the stem where the outer layer was chewed off or they climb up and start eating the cotyledons and low hanging leaves.

Yesterday, I put a ring of diatomaceous earth around each plant to help keep them away. I also left some plant cuttings laying around separated from my veggies to give them something to eat. It’s probably a lack of compost, they don’t have that to eat so they go after my plants. I already have wood mulch and lots of bunny poop, do you think that might work as a compost to feed the pill bugs?

I don’t want to kill them all, I think they are super cute and I know how beneficial they are, I just want them to stop eating my plants so I can enjoy some edamame and cucumbers.

  • I don’t have an answer, but as a fellow lefty, I have a lot of empathy for you. Ambidextrous items are still usually built for right handed folks. I’ve been replacing everything I can with left handed items; cooking utensils, really sharp scissors, garden shears, etc. It’s not easy to find everything, but having things built to be used in the left hand is a game changer.

Hope you find a lefty knife! I’ll definitely check out what other folks recommend:)

  • My lettuce box was infested with a bunch of aphids. I sprayed them with a mix of mildly soapy water, which killed most of them. Some survived, but the lettuce is for my rabbits, so it’s all going to get eaten soon anyway.

For my bunny greens, I use the mild soapy water method because I don’t want to make my kids sick with other stuff. For other plants that are not for my buns, I use a sprayer with neem oil, which also works on the powdery mildew that gets kind of crazy in my garden.

  • It’s not a cultural thing, it’s a weird manosphere thing. If you read the guy’s comment history, it quickly becomes obvious why he is single and can’t keep a relationship. If you don’t feel like it, which I don’t blame you, I summarized it in a recent comment to him:

I’ve noticed your complaints up and down this thread, I’ve also noticed them around the threadiverse for a while and I am beginning to see a pattern. You tend to be aggressively argumentative, denigrate women as a whole/complain about “woke”, refuse to see things from other people’s perspectives, and don’t listen to anyone’s advice. Have you ever heard the phrase “if everyone around you is an asshole, then maybe you’re the asshole”? Perhaps part of the issue is your behavior and attitude.
