Backrooms movie and Severance are both drawing from the same inspiration. That inspiration is the original internet stories and images of The Backrooms, a meme from the 2010s that predates both the show and movie.

Severance owes a lot of it’s visuals to the original Backrooms content.

They look SO MUCH like my parents. It’s uncanny.
