Yeah that immediately set off the bullshit detectors. Everything else in this post looks stupid but that sounded like utter crap

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Sooo... This is happening on Imgur
12·1 day agoThis is not one thing you learned today come on dude just think about it for two seconds. Could there possibly by another, much more likely reason that a programming language wouldn’t use ≠? Here’s a hint- if you’re at a computer, look down at your keyboard.

As opposed to Airbnbs which ask guests to clean their own sheets and I guess use the honor system that they actually did it.
Never book through Hotels.com even for actual hotels. Just look at the price and call the hotel directly. They will always price match because Hotels.com takes a cut of bookings through their site so they always win out if you book directly at the same price instead of going through hotels.com

Tesla@lemmy.zip•Tesla Barely Beats Jeep for Least Reliable Used Car, Owner Survey SaysEnglish
21·3 days agoIs that because they are the largest share of EVs? I hate Musk and Tesla too but EVs in general have fire risks that ICE cars don’t have due to the batteries. I think a more fair comparison would be Tesla vs. Other EVs rather than Tesla vs. all cars. EVs are worse than ICE cars if they catch fire because the giant lithium battery bank right under the passenger compartment and this is kind of true for any EV and not just Tesla.

11·3 days agoThey’re not that bad. Sometimes it’s good to step outside and talk to people instead of getting all your news from social media designed to make you mad. Yeah Tesla has quality issues and safety problems, but a lot of people have them and are completely happy with them.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Vast Number of Windows Users Refusing to Upgrade After Microsoft's Embrace of AI Slop
121·5 days agoEh. I installed Linux Mint this weekend because I was sick of Microsoft’s bullshit and I had to connect my PC to my router with an Ethernet cable to install a driver for my wifi adapter from the terminal. I am quite tech savvy and was very comfortable with this whole process and it took no time at all, but my wife who knows barely anything about computers would have probably given up the moment the Internet didn’t work when Mint installed. Most people use routers that they rent for too much money from their ISPs and don’t even know you can plug shit into the backs of those routers yourself. The moment the wifi doesn’t work on the new OS even though the password is right, it’s game over for their ability to troubleshoot it. That is why Linux won’t get normies on it anytime soon. After that my experience has been extremely smooth and I have been able to do anything I’ve wanted to do without touching the terminal (although I prefer terminal commands), but that initial hurdle is just way too much to expect from the average person who just wants to get on Netflix and Facebook asap.
markovs_gun@lemmy.worldtoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•If Russia is fighting against Nazis in Ukraine
72·8 days agoIt also doesn’t help that there is an… Interesting… Relationship between Ukrainian nationalism and Naziism. A lot of Ukrainian national heroes who are fondly remembered for fighting for Ukrainian independence against the Soviets did so by aligning with the Nazis in World War 2, and many of them were explicitly fascist and anti-semitic. It’s a deeply uncomfortable fact that there is a decent amount of overlap between Ukrainian nationalism and Naziism. Not everyone fighting for Ukraine is a Nazi, but all the Ukrainian Nazis are fighting for Ukraine. To make matters worse, Ukraine isn’t really in a position to turn these guys down when they offer to fight for them and provide support because they’re desperate, and it’s politically difficult because they’re pretty popular.
Of course, not to let Russia off the hook there are a lot of fascist antisemites on their side too. I mean their big mercenary group was literally called the Wagner Group which is pretty fucking sus. I just think that a lot of times we fall into “Russia Bad, therefore Ukraine Good” when the real story is more complicated. In a vacuum, I wouldn’t say Ukraine would be a good country to align with, but western powers kind of have to if they want to check Russian expansion in Europe.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Lemmy users who say that Lemmy users are smarter than Reddit users
1·9 days agoHonestly I know I’m going to get a lot of hate for this but from my experience the average Lemmy poster seems kind of dumber than the average reddit poster, or at least more anti-intellectual, outside of certain instances and communities specifically dedicated to tech stuff. I really don’t get it because Lemmy is more confusing to set up than Reddit and I always imagined people who were into the fediverse to be on the more tech savvy side but I’m constantly surprised at confident incorrectness and how much it gets upvoted.

Television@piefed.social•What TV series essentially became unwatchable to you after one decision by the writers?
4·10 days agoThat is beyond stupid, to the point where anyone proposing it has shown they not only don’t respect the source material, but actively hate it. That is like the central feature of the interpersonal relationships in the books.

71·13 days agoExcellent question! When I am sad about my dad dying, nothing helps me like the cool refreshing taste of an ice cold Coca-Cola™. Click here to buy one on Doordash™ right now!
You are thinking about this from the perspective of a normal person, not someone who is sad and pathetic enough to do something like this. These people are most likely deeply disempowered IRL and being a mod of a large subreddit is probably all they have going for them so they are way too invested in it.
