Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you take a job that pays $15/hr but provides housing at no cost?English
18·2 days agoNo.
Housing tied to employment is too close to slavery for me.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Broadly speaking, what is your current take on AI?English
82·4 days agoAI itself is not bad.
But the unregulated industry, breaking laws all the time, people in charge are literal super villains, mass surveillance, producing even more idiots that I have to depend and interact with, …
Take it away, it is not doing anything we want it to actually do. I only want robots/computers for one thing, and that is to do chores around the house. It doesn’t do that, so I am out.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's keeping you from ditching the civilized world and living in the woods?English
191·4 days agoIt is impossible to gather food for yourself. We don’t live in pre-civilization or even the wild west. Everything is owned by someone, regulated, etc.
How do you expect to feed yourself? Not like you can just gather all day and get lucky hunting.
It is objectively harder to ‘live on the land’ then it was centuries ago. Borderline impossible, especially if you want to… you know live and interact with people.
I have a wife and cat to look out for, hard to do that when I can’t pay rent.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why have Christian crosses become a fashion statement?English
23·4 days agoHow old are you and where are you from?
Because in the US it has been a ‘fashion statement’ for decades. Maybe even centuries to be honest.
It has gotten LESS popular compared to the 2000s. Haven’t seen one in a while tbh.
Social media was not a mistake, but unregulated social media was.
The whole incentive for businessman to ‘innovate’ in tech is to skirt around the law. We have had laws about theft for centuries, but now since its ‘digital’ theft we have to write new laws for some reason?
Just an example, but social media/tech unregulated is what got us here.

Yeah go ahead, copy and paste exists.
It begs the question, what is the ‘good’ solution.
Or is ‘good’ even possible?

2hr daily meeting.
Fuck man, sorry.
I work from home once a week, and yeah the steam deck is nice in this regards.
btw, did you know that the steam docking station also works on laptops? Found that to be very useful, now I don’t have to unplug and plug in a bunch of hdmi when I need to use the monitor for work/gaming.
Got a favorite app? Been trying to get into crosswords, but I do find them difficult.
Been using sporcle.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What do you do to kill time at work?English
19·7 days agoOffice worker in government. Everyone around me is either an idiot/incompetent or doing all the work. Will get ‘rewarded’ with more work if I start asking for more.
At least you get to go home early if you want. I guarantee that 80% of office workers pretend to work all day because if we don’t then we are given more work/responsibilities without a pay increase, job title, any reward.
A lot of office work is ‘be ready to answer a question at anytime when someone walks up to your cube’. And to be fair, you are probably the only person who can answer that question since most people’s role is niche/specialized.
But honestly, pretty sure office workers/management want people in the office all hours of the days because they hate their home life, and use work as their only socialization.
Apologies.
Thank you for brining joy to the world

Yeah, this is an example of “having it both ways”.
Pick a lane, stop dragging me along.
We could have both, but unfortunately people who are having a shitty time, tend to… well be in shitty mood and act accordingly.
