Buy European@feddit.uk•Would you guys donate to content creators through an US platform?English
6·14 days agoJust checked Patreon’s fees:
on Patreon’s standard plan you pay a 10% platform cut on everything you earn plus payment processing of 2.9% + $0.30 per charge.
So if I donate 5 eur roughy 1 eur will be going to Patreon.
I also thought about reaching out but I feel it’s a bit… weird asking them to do such a thing for a small donation.

Linux@programming.dev•No, KDE isn't turning into an AI desktopEnglish
72·19 days agoThere is a time for nuance, but there are also times when one side is simply evil. Giving them the benefit of the doubt only supports their pushed narrative and enables them to continue doing what they’re doing.

1·24 days agoThat was kinda his point that it can be anything. In his case it was Neovim and grew a lot because of it.
So once the novelty wears off and it’s just the tool you happen to open, what then?
You move on to the next “playground”.

Technology@lemmy.world•GrapheneOS defends use of AI for codingEnglish
31·1 month agoA bit unrelated, but I wonder if I’m the only one left that is:
- Using small, open-weight models
- Asking it to only write small snippets that I can easily go through, check and understand.
- Copying pasting from good old web frontends instead of integrating it into my editor or whatever else people do with agents nowadays.
I feel like when we’re talking about AI this sort of usage gets lumped into the same pile as agentic vibe coding and it’s not helpful for discussion. Surely most people wouldn’t find this problematic?

16·1 month agobut it might be fairly compared to the Cotton Gin in terms of making the field workers more productive in the delivery of market ready code/cotton.
Last i heard was that developers FELT like it made them more productive but actually not so much.

Privacy@programming.dev•Mozilla Relay - Mask your email address
1·1 month agoI used duckduckgo at first now pay for mozilla relay.
Can’t remember exactly why I switched. I think I didn’t like it that I couldn’t see the emails I had generated. Also you needed the extension for something and I found it annoying. In general I feel like I have more control in Mozilla relay than I had in DDG.
As for the price it’s 1 eur / month. I treat it as a donation to mozilla and don’t sweat it, considering I use firefox on phone / desktop they deserve it.

I had to re-index my gears ~2 years after I bought my new mountain bike… It’s not “hard” but if you’ve never done it before and don’t have a place where to properly work on your bike I can see why people would rather pay whatever the fee is at a shop.
Like with most stuff you do it a couple of times and it becomes easy.
