politics @lemmy.world•Trump Hit by Devastating Poll as Inflation Explodes
17·6 days agoThere is always a new poll with the “lowest numbers ever!!!” yet Trump seems to consistently have a ~40% approval rate. It’s beyond frustrating.
This one only focuses on economic sentiment and is sad (people are really struggling) but also encouraging because the struggle is hitting some of Trump’s hard 40% floor of support with the clue stick. Inflation has been hammering folks for years now but the gas prices may be what finally wakes the Tump supporters up 🤞🏾.
So much of this country has shitty public transportation (or none at all) and so many people live in suburbs or exurbs where there are no sidewalks and nothing is a reasonable walking distance, especially in the freezing winters or 100+ degree summers. Additionally, the people living in cities where you can get by without a car are less likely to be Trump supporters. It may be hopium but the gas prices are such an obvious own goal, I really think the clueless are starting to wake up.

politics @lemmy.world•Poll: 72 percent say there’s too much money in American politics
2·7 days agoTax the extremely wealthy until they can’t afford to buy politicians. Don’t know how we get there when the wealthy already own all the politicians. But if people with too much money can’t be trusted to play well with others, taking away their money seems like the obvious solution.

6·17 days agoHe kinda started strong with trying to undo the toxic Ballmer era culture and scrambling to try to catch up on cloud infra. But even back then, the push for crazy excessive telemetry and moving pretty much all of QA into data science was the beginning of the end. And like all tech execs, AI has them losing their GD minds.

3·23 days agoTheir mistake was being on X in the first place. It’s run by an unrepentant Nazi. NOONE should be using that trash platform for ANY reason. I’m not gonna harass someone who bought a Tesla back when it was possible to be ignorant of Musk’s fascism but jesus tap dancing christ, how hard is it to drop a social media account? We all need to be better.

Fuck The USA@lemmy.ca•Palantir employees are talking about company's "descent into fascism"English
15·23 days agoYa know how people can be “skinny-fat” where they don’t gain weight but eat like shit and are generally out of shape and unhealthy? These Palantir folks are clever-morons. Smart enough to get into and through a decent school and smart enough to get through a grueling interview process but shockingly ignorant and incurious about important shit that’s right in front of their faces. It’s like if we gave a bunch of teenagers guns and trained them to aim really well but gave them zero training on weapons safety and even less on philosophy, ethics or history.

Health - Resources and discussion for everything health-related@lemmy.world•Why is it so easy for me to get off Soda than Snacking?English
5·24 days agoIt’s very difficult. It helps to increase the friction for “bad” snacks and populate your environment with healthy alternatives. If there’s an apple and peanut butter in the kitchen but you would have to walk to the store for chips, then you’re less likely to eat the chips.
Having satisfying meals with enough good fats, fiber and protein will help with cravings. A nutritionist could give good advice on macro targets but as an example, I’ve been told that I should be getting 30g of protein in my breakfast. And I have found that when I do so, I’m less likely to snack.
I agree with the advice someone else posted about getting enough water. You could consider coupling that with some extra fiber. Fiber is pretty filling and I think it can also help with steadying blood sugar, which can help with cravings. Adding ground flaxseeds to your food or having a spoon of psyllium with juice can up your fiber.

This brings me so much joy.
I’m gonna guess that you put a decent amount of time into figuring out a good set of smart home products and maybe even put some effort into looking up which products play well together and what configurations are ideal.
And that’s great if you enjoy shopping for, setting up and maintaining all those toys. But we all know there is too much shitty tech out there to think that it’s a good idea to grab a bunch of smart home stuff at Best Buy one afternoon and just plug it all in and call it good.
I think the thing is, folks in tech are less likely to be cool with, for example, exposing their door locks on the internet without doing a decent amount of due diligence. You have to want it enough to put in the work to make sure you have something that you can feel is secure, smooth operating and meets your personal privacy expectations. It kinda has to be a minor hobby. Which is cool if you happen to enjoy it or get enough joy from the result to make it worthwhile.
For me, I have enough hobbies and pastimes. I’ll put in the effort when the payoff is high, like for a home media server. But there’s no way in hell I’m signing up for future chores and headaches just so I can control my window curtains from my phone.
It’s wild because these supposed geniuses have clearly not thought about who the fuck is going to buy all the shit produced by prison labor when EVERYONE IS PRISON LABOR! They’re addicted to making money and will happily squeeze all the money out of everyone till we’re all dead. It’s like if you have a cow and take all the milk and leave nothing for the calves; someday you’ll be left with nothing.

News@lemmy.world•House Democrats call for commission led by JD Vance to oust Trump
61·1 month agoYeah, although W is like a million times more charming than Vance. And I say this as someone who HATES W.
Also, he barely got in the 1st time (you could argue that he didn’t actually win) and then 911 happened in his 1st term, so at that point, we were cooked. I would still argue that even a 911 type event wouldn’t be enough to get Vance elected cuz he’s just so deeply unlikeable.

News@lemmy.world•House Democrats call for commission led by JD Vance to oust Trump
30·1 month agoYou’re 100% correct. And getting removal via the 25th is the longest longshot ever. But it’s kinda wild that we all could die in WWIII while Vance waits for the halfway point, so he’s eligible to be elected twice, even though he’s so uncharismatic he’s never getting elected once.

Maybe they should have made the effort to figure out what users actually want before shoving the half baked OS down everyone’s throats?
