Could this be done on app level? It would be great to have a status / notifications about interesting posts or comments, mainly for new replies.

and added as a new category under “Saved” with a fallback option “Keep followed content as saved when interest period ends”.
The Issue on GitHub - it was dormant for a long time but it looks like the new plug-in system has opened up some possibilities for it.
