There have been several occasions where I’ve wished I knew how to weld.

Do you have any particular recommendations other than the broad “practice, practice”?

I’d like to learn too. I took wood and metal shop class in middle school, but not in high school, and I don’t remember why. I think if I had, then I would have had the foundation to keep practicing on my own, even though I didn’t want to do it for a living.
Same for me, there have been several times in the past when knowing enough to do some basic welding would have been helpful.
