A moment that changed me: I adopted a koala, he bit me – and I remembered something important about myself

As I watched the news about Australia’s devastating bushfires in 2020 I felt compelled to help. It was the start of a new relationship with nature, and a reminder of my childhood joie de vivre

Well, there are a lot of these marsupials going around Australia all the time, and very seldom does anything like this happen. I just don’t want people thinking that koalas aren’t safe.

Yes, we koalas don’t like being screwed with. If we bite you or claw you up, which can be rare, it basically tells you to leave us alone in peace.

(Psst, that’s a novelty account. They’re pretending to be John Clarke’s character from one of the most famous of the Clarke and Dawe sketches.)

Well, I was thinking more about the other ones.

I agree, I don’t want this to give people the wrong idea about us koalas here.

Welcome to the Koalawalla Woods

This is the community for koala lovers to discuss koalas that need land and woods since they are in danger of becoming extinct in their most native wilderness habitat on the Koala Coast of South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales.

We hope this haven in the eucalyptus woods can bring attention to this serious issue facing Australia’s most recognizable national icon and the natural heritage in which it thrives.

You can share a koala story, ask a koala question, or start a koala conversation about saving koalas. Maybe you will make some friends in the process.

Community Rules

  1. Be civil as we won’t tolerate anyone being disrespectful to others including koalas.
