The New Orleans Police Department responded to the DHS statement with its own statement following the arrest of Temah:

Recent statements regarding Recruit Larry Temah are misleading. The New Orleans Police Department verified Mr. Temah’s employment eligibility through ICE’s E-Verify system prior to hiring and was never notified of any ICE detainer. New Orleans is not a sanctuary city, and NOPD does not control jail operations or detainer decisions, which fall under the Sheriff’s Office. Any claim that NOPD knowingly violated the law is false.

Policing is a necessary function of civil society. We need good cops and good law enforcement policy. ICE is not that.

They also managed without medicine. And a lot of people died.

Just because there is an undeniable police problem I wouldn’t want to go back to vigilantes taking revenge by cutting people’s ears off or something.

Do you know what a “false dichotomy” is? What you said doesn’t address that.

                Here’s an example:

“The only types of footwear are boots and sandals.”

“That’s a false dichotomy; people can wear other shoe types.”

“I don’t think so, people wear boots all the time.”

My comment was specific to the U.S. Police do not make us safer. That’s my opinion. You are free to have a different opinion. I think you’re wrong.

Your use of a false dichotomy is not an opinion, it’s a fact. Having an opinion about a fact just means you’re confused.

If I said there are no shoes other than boots and sandals and you disagreed, that doesn’t make my “opinion” equally valid and worthy of respect, it just means I’m confused.

I think if we get together, we can come up with other solutions beyond vigilante justice and a protected class who hold a monopoly on state-endorsed violence. No, the police have got to go, man.

No it’s not. We started organizing police in the U.S. to protect the property and goods of the wealthy. It’s been that way from the beginning. In fact, it’s pretty much that way everywhere, we are just more blatant about it serving that function in the U.S.
