The BBC are now far too shitty. I rely instead on Reuters and Aljezeera for news stories.

Reuters only slightly better better than BBC. Aljazeera is flailing around between Qatari propaganda and doing journalism right now but after the first few days they’ve become mostly normal again

Yeah aljezzera is good for stuff that doesn’t touch the gulf states(which excludes the majority of output)

As always reading a variety of sources with a critical eye to identify weasel words and lies by omission especially is the only way to get remotely close to an ‘objective truth’ through second/third hand reporting

Who would you suggest for more balance these days? My only real limiting factor being that I can only read English.

Someone who executes people who are good is a murder.

Someone who murders people who are bad are executioners.

Israel is literally an Apartheid. Half the people in it don’t even get to vote.

Israel almost devolved into a civil war because Netanyahu’s court cases kept being delayed (and still are to this day)

Israel also just banned Arab parties.

There is a much stronger case to make for Iranian democracy than Israel

You’re describing a democracy. A non democratic government is still a government.

Iran is the healthiest and most participatory democracy in the Middle East if you look at actual facts instead of imperial slop media

          Here come the narratives!

I said what I said and I meant it. The competition for Most Democratic in the Middle East features such contenders as:

          • The failed states of Iraq and Syria
          • The slave kingdoms of the Gulf
          • The genocidal apartheid entity

Iran has a complex constitutional system that is alien to westerners. Every single politician in the United States has to be approved by the capitalist class, does that make it not a democracy? Even the self-righteous Europeans are completely prostrate before the empire and under military occupation

Talking about “protests” outside of the context of 50 years of regime change operations is a joke

You got all your information about Iran from their geopolitical enemies, Iran isn’t perfect by any means and we don’t have to like it, but it’s democratic and much, much better than every other state in the region

Where did you get that number, and did you even bother to check the facts on the ground? Are you unaware that the peaceful protestors met with gov officials and actually got an agreement, and because of that rioters related to Mossad and the CIA started killing random ass civilians, police officers and setting all sorts of buildings on fire, especially mosques? How dare you regurgitate western media narratives without even bother to look deep into it against a country being bombed RIGHT NOW by those western countries? Do you not know that most confirmed deaths are civilians and gov employees, not protestors? Or do you believe those who LITERALLY bombed a school for girls as one of their first acts of aggression in the names of the rights for women? And they KILLED their leadership, but the country did not collapse, you know why? Because it’s still a Republic that has the support of most of the population, at least during war.

Iranians living in Iran? Because if they’re not the ones being bombed their opinion isn’t any more important than yours or mine, and unlike your anecdotal experience I actually speak from a place of knowing history and listening to Iranians IN Iran.
