I’m curious what peoples thoughts are on the idea of overweighting midcap stocks.
Avoiding large caps appears to provide a premium according to historic research, outside of this dotcom bubble style AI bull run as we are in now. Large companies can weather storms easier and have lower volatility, but come with the downside of providing less upside growth potential.
Avoiding unprofitable small growth stocks also provides a premium. Unprofitable small growth companies have a high skewness, and smallcap growth are generally called the “black hole of investing”, so avoiding them entirely provides a premium.
Mid-caps are a happy middle that are neither dragged down by large cap safety nor the black hole of small-cap-growth lottery.
