The most pathetic thing about the Confederacy is that they never, ever had a chance.
It was a bunch of people stuck in the past trying to futilely and hopelessly deny the future, just like people who fly the confederate flag nowadays.
All those Confederate soldiers died for less than nothing, their lives were tossed away into a trashbin for a cause that could never succeed and was covered in blood from the very beginning.
On a related note, this is why Mississippi is such a shit hole. They’re consistently the most laggard of laggards… They adopted the cotton gin (operated by horses) around the time the rest of the union was using far more advanced factories for production.
They heavily invested into manufacturing in the 1980s… Right when America was moving everything offshore…
They’re professional bagholders. Basically any tech takes the full adoption cycle to reach them… I’m half joking when I say they’ll start heavily investing in broadband and the internet a decade from now…
They used to be the richest and most well educated state in the union, the literal center of power for the US in more ways than one. They got too rich and ossified and refused to change with the times, so the times changed them. Now they’re a hollow shell of their former self.
Hey now if the French could’ve actually fought their proxy war there almost could’ve been a chance!
