Boost does this with webm files. Click on the three dot menu between the post and the comments. Go to Share, Share Link, then share it to your browser. It should play fine there.

I use an android apk called “thunder” for Lemmy and it plays just fine for me.
I get other webm videos. And I’m on droid fwiw.
