Yeah that drove me away from mtg, when they starting bringing in all this stupid ip from other things.

Could we also go back to cards that aren’t novels worth of text as well?

And how about tamping down the power creep they ramped to recently to make everyone buy more cards?

I miss blocks and cycles and actual stories.

I always loved mtg because it felt like its own universe. Decisions had weight, we learned about important leaders and events through cards, and we got to feel connected with each plane we visited. The art was directed to capture the spirit of each plane. We could get attached to planeswalkers, or pick a favorite tribe, or try out quirky mechanics!

Anyway it will be a cold day in hell before I play against Transformers, SpongeBob, and Spider-Man in a commander game. Hasbro has killed mtg for people like me. Might as well bring back Venser and slap some NASCAR patches on him. Fuck it, let’s go back to Innistrad and get a Hotel Transylvania tie in!

Agreed. While I do like the idea of other worlds being a part of MTG, looking at the recent packs, it’s insane. Can we get something original?

I had to look this up because I’ve been out of the loop for a while. I thought this was satire and now I’m just disappointed.

Marvel, TMNT, hobbit, avatar decks… Im at a loss for words for how dumb of an idea that was to convert MTG into the atrocity it is now.

I miss when the mtg lore was cool, and most of the sets were actual wizards stuff. Please take me back to Ravnica

All the greedy bullshit packs really broke the lore for me in a way that’s hard to get back. I used to read the books and be really into it as a kid. They basically ruined that feeling of nostalgia that actually kept me around.

LOTR was fun though, I wish they would have kept it at that.

Yeah this is a “you can’t put the genie back in the bottle” situation. They keep telling themselves that the UB sets are selling well so they keep doing more. The problem is that they’ve alienated a lot of the long time/passionate fan base and I’m not convinced the people buying the marvel sets are going to stick around. Short term profit above all else.

Hasbro bought Wizards and immediately started this crossover content shit. I call it Fortnightification. It’s why I stopped playing MTG.

There are more unique versions of Spider-Man in the game than either Jace or Chandra or any other major character I could think of.

Nauctis, Zhalfir, and Kamigawa with big Ikoria monsters, 2027’s actually looking pretty cool for in-Universe sets

I saw somewhere that Spider-man/Peter Parker appears in more cards than Jace. I already pretty much quit, but magic just isn’t the game I used to love if that’s true. My friends who were more okay with UB have all slowly dropped out too. It’s sad to see what it’s become.

I have mixed feelings about some of the UB sets, Marvel had a lot of overpowered legendary cards that had little drawbacks but had some nice mechanics for pauper decks, plus some decent comic art, the Final Fantasy cards had some OP stuff for sure but I enjoyed the vehicle and job select mechanics and art, the Avatar stuff just seemed like it was made for fanboys and the bending mechanic just doesn’t seem to fit IMO with anything other than that, plus I hate Izzet-Lessons decks with Gran-Gran.

Not a huge fan of marvel but I’ve enjoyed the UB stuff. Like Avatar and FF. I’m kind of excited for StarTerk too, I saw the Mariner card and laughed at how accurate it was.

It’s just silly fun. Plus it means I can keep playing mtg with the IPs I enjoy instead of looking for an alternative just for that IP.

I’ve been on and off since day 1, so I’m not super tuned in on the power levels but it’s settled fine and fun without detracting much of anything in my eyes.
