PyLova (Python+Pavlova) is a soft fork of PieFed, aimed at improving the user experience through UI overhauls, empowering users and admins with agency, improved administration and moderation functions, and general bug fixing.

New & Improved
- Muffle Users : Instead of outright blocking a user, you can now ‘Muffle’ them. This will place their content behind a spoiler. This functionality has also been extended to the filter system.
- Live Posts : Mods can designate a post as a Live Post. A Live Post will continuously update with new posts coming through will sorting by new. This is great for keeping track on currently happening events such as global news or sports.
- Reel View : This is a new way to browse the site, putting it into ‘Reel’ view shows one post per scroll. Cuts out the noise, allowing you to appreciate one post at a time.
- User Flags : Want to show off who you are? Add a flag next to your pronouns. These small flags can be set by instance admins, great show showing Pride Flags, Sports Teams, Nationalities, Political Ideologies, etc.
- Bookmark Organisation : Users can now sort their bookmarked posts and comments by folders.
- Admin Notes : Admins and Instance Moderators can share notes about users on their profile page, this can be handy in building a history of bad behaviour or sharing concerns.
- Account Oversight : Admins and Instance Moderators have greater ability to search through a users upvoted and downvoted content.
- New Theme : Nocturne Core @luminous5481@anarchist.nexus has wonderfully created a Sci-Fi inspired theme you can apply.
Bug-Fixes & Misc
- Lemmy/Mbin support for Multi-Image Posts : Multi-Image Posts will now add the extra images into the post body for users on Lemmy and Mbin so they don’t have to miss out on your amazing content.
- Censorship Transparency : On the instance about page, there is now a one-stop location for viewing what sort of things are being censored by your instance.
- Options Menu : The menu has been updated with a more navigable UI in 3 Panel Mode.
- Reactions Only Mode : A small setting for instance admins to ‘turn off’ up and downvotes, letting posts only have emoji reactions. Note, emoji reacts do technically count as an upvote and this is more of a visual change in regards to user view.
- Trusted Instances Only Federation : Communities can already be set to local only, this feature allows communities to only be visible on those in your instances trusted list.
- Banned Users can now unsubscribe from a community, allowing them to remove it from their feed.
- Blocked/Unfederated Instances now show more information, such as allowing for reasons why it was removed.
- Poll Post Type teasers had a slight visual inconsistency, their icon should now align properly with every other post type.
- Flair, Tags, & Live Status all follow the same visual format. Also now visible on post teasers.
- General Performance Improvements.
- Code Refactoring to follow a more pythonic style guide and reduce McCabe complexity.

Not related to the update and I already made a post about it but I don’t know if you saw it (I think I saw you comment on another post that you didn’t have notifications enabled for this community), I noticed that in the description of the repo there is a link to a website that doesn’t seem to work, if it’s down I wanted to warn you, and if it’s not made yet maybe it should be removed from the description?
Also I really like the flag feature and I was wondering if you could add the transbian flag

thank you for the hard work! so many cool features getting implemented! is it just one flag we can choose or can we have several at once (or is a limit set by admin)? i’m excited about it either way.
i do have a small (?) QoL request, or maybe it’s 2 really, and that is a) to access custom emojis in the post/reply form picker and b) have a searchbox in the emoji pickers. but it’s not a big deal if it’s not possible!

i had another QoL idea: there doesn’t currently seem to be a simple way to see an overview of one’s scheduled posts, so if you wanted to edit or reschedule a post, you have to trawl through your top-level posts, both scheduled and already public. which can get confusing as there isn’t really a way to distinguish them from each other aside from using templated/dated titles. scheduling a post displays it as published [x time ago] in one’s own profile, just like any other post.
so, it would be handy if there was either a clear indicator like the future publication date, or a separate tab for the scheduled posts to display them in an orderly way, or even a calendar view of them. i think it could be quite useful for both community mods and regular users! but also no pressure! :bunhdheart:
PF already included that one, although it is a bit hidden away. It’s in the drop down menu for your user account.
Do you think it would be easier to find if it was more directly on your ‘View Profile’ page? I could easily move that link to there.
aggh i don’t open that menu a lot so that’s probably why i didn’t see it :bc_smilomsweat: it makes more sense to me to have it on the profile page but if others find it more intuitive for it to be in the dropdown, at least i know now!
No I agree, it would make more sense on the profile page. I’ll add it to the sidebar as a card along with some other useful stuff for users to access.
I assume this new MENU button is part of this most recent PyLova update. But it doesn’t follow my UI language setting.

It’s actually an old menu, buried in the PieFed code but never properly set. I’ll revert it tomorrow if you’re not a fan.
I think just the “three lines” icon alone is ubiquitously understood as something like “menu”, but I’ll let others weigh in their opinions on the subject.

This is pretty exciting! As a former Mbin user, I appreciate the consideration of those instances. I also really like the idea of muffles. There have been folks I didn’t necessarily want to block, but maybe only not see in a certain forum. How handy! I’m not sure I understand all the things here (like reel view) but it’s nice to have new things to explore and a developer who wants to offer them!

Thanks for the feedback. I used to use Kbin, so I enjoy the design philosophy of how they’ve gone.
As for the Reel view, you can take a look at it by hitting the List dropdown at the end and selecting Reels. I would recommend doing so on a mobile device as it’s really intended for that use case. I’m not 100% happy with how it runs but it’s 95% of the way there.

Well I was going to respond to my own post about a different “bug” that may not be a bug, but in the process found out that I cannot reply to anyone. Only on the top line reply option. I don’t post a lot, maybe this is not new. This is happening on mobile and desktop.
I also had a question/observation about reel view (videos play automatically in mobile but not desktop) but this seems bigger! Mobile is non-stock android and computer Linux with a Firefox fork.
