I feel like one of the defining elements of Dracula is gay undercurrents and you just can’t have that when barb is heaving her breasts around like that.

Yeah having only read the original novel I am at a disavantage. IIRC he does victimize women in that book but Harker is what he is truly after.

Comparing Dracula versions is part of the fun. Check out both versions of the Dracula stage play. The first one makes the Dracula into an Oscar Wilde kind of guy. The second one eventually became the foundation for the Browning movie - this time Dracula Rudolph Valentino’s his way through the play. But both are very good transformative pieces.

In addition - check out the Powers of Darkness - it is heavily modified and rewritten swedish translation of Dracula (technically it is two serialized versions). it goes places. really wild stuff even by late 19th century fantasy standards - basically “what if alejandro jodorowky did dracula?” - the Transylvania part is greatly expanded and it seems like people were having a lot of mystic fun in those places - our boy Bram was holding back in that aspect. It also has its own heavily modified adapted translation into icelandic with EVEN MORE Transylvania and also some Icelandic myths sprinkled in. Somehow it manages to get even weirder and more dreamlike.
