“Nah, we what we need is more data centers powered by giant gas turbines!” ~fucking billionaires.
But don’t you understand? The data centres will create way more than 18% efficiency improvements which will result in way more than 18% in emissions reductions!
– Billionaires probably
I think they’ve given up in that facade, thier new stance seems to be:
I’m old and I’ll be dead soon, and since AI appears to be advancing at an exponential pace we’ll all be dead soon anyway when the AI kills us. But we need to run the AI first before the Chinese so we can be more powerful in the small window before the AI takes over.
I don’t think AI is taking over anything, and I don’t think the billionaires actually believe that either. The doom over AI is a marketing tool to keep their bubble propped up while they find ways to shift their money out and government and retirement funds in.
That’s just what i think the Epstein class believe, as a cognitive dissonance to justify running AI data centers on gas turbines…
Sorry I’m saying I don’t think they have cognitive dissonance, I don’t think they care about the environment and don’t think about it. They think about making more money in the current instance and short term future than the other guys making a lot of money and nothing else matters. Everything is a short term grift to make more money. If they have to think about the environment it’s only because someone is using it to get in the way of the current grift and the issue raised is now a cost of doing business that is eating into the monetary lead they have against the next richest grifter. They will happily ignore those environmental costs if noone makes them think about it. The triple bottom line is two too many bottom lines.
So, we’re fucked then. 🥲
I love these articles with percentages and timelines that will not even be attempted.
Itll be ‘25% in 3 years’ then 30% in 2 years etc etc too I’d imagine at our current pace
COVID gave me some hope that we’d be able to wrestle this out but nope … no way in hell now.
Narrator: We didn’t.

I’m sure we will.
Emissions will probably drop pretty significantly after World War 3.
Outside of a technological breakthrough to “clean up”, we’re doomed.
And the ocean is already doomed. Within the next fifty years or so there will be a global ecological collapse of the ocean, killing all vertebrates. Then the largest famine humanity has seen will follow. Within 150-200 years all animal life, save for small pockets here and there, will be gone from the oceans.
This has happened several times before when CO2 levels shot up, but it never went up this fast.
I really wish I didn’t have kids.
“Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”
The quote kinda still works if you take into account the shorter lifetime due to global collapse.
