As in bi-stitch-ual. I didn’t come up with it though, there’s a very popular subreddit by that name, and one whose presence I’ve sorely missed since moving away. While there are already a bunch of needlecraft communities in the fediverse, as far as I could tell, most of them are dedicated to specific popular crafts (knitting/ crochet/ cross-stitch/etc). That leaves a void for folks interested in, say, ply-split braiding. Or combinations of crafts, like knitted garments with tatted trim.

Also, since PieFed isn’t exactly a 1-for-1 Lemmy clone, I figured it could use some of it’s own versions of communities anyway.

Thanks for settting up camp here!

I’m just a very slow amateur knitter and I haven’t taken off enough time to do that lately either, so I’ll probably just lurk here while I mess around with much less ambitious projects. But I love what you’ve shared already - it’s incredibly inspiring, even if it’s so far beyond my skill level it’s not even funny.

And it’s very cool to learn a bit about different traditional techniques!

I think you’d be surprised! Honestly I would consider myself very much an amateur too. I’d love to see what you’re working on, even if it is less ambitious. Those are the best projects to me because they’re low stress.
