The U.S. Space Command is reporting it has broken up as of Oct. 19th at 0430UTC. 20 pieces tracked currently.
Damn. Even if there are “no immediate threats”, 20+ pieces in GEO doesn’t sound like a fun time. I wonder what the cause was?
Being up that high, it probably got whack by a meteorite.
Intelsat said it is working with satellite maker Boeing to address the anomaly, but “believe it is unlikely that the satellite will be recoverable.”
