That there is no perfect defense. There is no protection. Being alive means being exposed; it’s the nature of life to be hazardous—it’s the stuff of living.

  • Agreed. Hardware supply chains and ecosystem externalities are an extremely challenging area and it will take both industrial policy and de facto tariffs to raise the cost of devices with non-local components.

I was refering to the software/OS. An operating system and platform that has nothing to do with Android, iOS or HarmonyOS. I think in theory, software can have faster market adoption.

Can’t buy in at this point, but I will most probably buy it early next year, hopefully the crowd-buy goes through.

I can’t participate in ecosystems run by corrupt Americans (such as Android or iOS). They’ve been posturing about “freedoms” for so long that they’ve totally lost understanding of the true meaning of freedom.

I am done with their bullshit.

  • Surprise, surprise!

While I’ve been into computer hardware for decades (built my first PC when I was 16), I don’t understand people who are “fans” of AMD or Nvidia or any other company. The best option is to have a large number of competitors (at least 7-10 on a global level) in every major core technology area (operating systems, cloud services, office products, social media, different CPU architectures - x86, ARM, RISC-V. GPU design fabs and so on) with such an intense level of competition that something like Zuckerberg’s $60 B+ spend on metaverse BS would be impossible (because their margins would be too low).

    • Better on-boarding - For non-technically inclined users, Fedi can be challenging. I personally strongly oppose the “join by selecting instance” type sites. There should be an algorithm automatically signing up users based on region, refer header and perhaps some sort of random selection
    • With respect to Threadi, when a user is logged in, all links to instance/communities should automatically be transformed to the “view via your instance format” (!technology@lemmy.world).
    • Movement to Piefed (I am aware I am posting from a Lemmy account, this one is used for managing !hardware@lemmy.world, I used Piefed) - tankies are a major turn off for people across the globe and across the political spectrum.
    • Target users who are recognize the severe dangerous of US oligarchy. More and more people are recognizing that the American model is a dead end.
    • Target open source communities. I don’t understand why r/linux or r/BSD are not making a move to directing users towards Threadi

And most importantly: post, comment, upvote.

Note, I am doing some of these thing when I can.

  • Don’t really remember which Stable Diffusion model was used. I followed a guide.

I am just looking for generation of simple two tone flat icons and very basic 3D photo images for products. It to save time making presentations. I would usually just cook something up based on free iconsets or Google images. It actually doesn’t take long.

Gemini works pretty well for this (and support multi -model prompts), but I would prefer to use local models.
