I have a friend who lost his passport while doing a medical tourism for trans care and he had his reissued passport changed back to his dead gender and now he can’t travel overseas due to safety concerns.

I refuse to travel back to the USA from Spain for the same reason and I haven’t been able to see my family in over a year.

So here is my understanding: Spain has a long history of Arabic relations with it’s proximity to Morocco and north Africa. There is a shared history there, and parts of Spain have a high morrocan/Arabic population. Spain is also historically neutral re: most wars. Spain looks out for Spain, and getting involved in an unpopular war could invite domestic issues.
