I agree with your sentiment, increasing temperatures and deeply unhealthy forests create superfires, but also that’s not the point of the message. Most wildfires are human-caused and I have seen first hand just how wreckless humans can be around fire.

So, please follow your local fire restrictions, treat any open flame outside with the respect and care it deserve, and most of all, use common sense. A fire started in bad fire weather quite often is an entirely different beast from a fire natural started from lightning strike.

And the sentiment of the meme is unfortunately all too correct. You can simply see it in how conservative the fire authorities are in using air assets. While the scale and furry of fires is caused by climate change, the inevitable loss of property and more importantly life is on the hands of Trump.

Also, the wing shape and nose shape. The 777 tapers in far more than the 757 around the cockpit. The 757 has a slightly different wing sweep and flap design. The 777 also doesn’t have winglets, and the 757 almost always does.

But yeah, for me the gear gave it away, it’s where I always start when IDing aircraft (assuming it’s extended, and not something super obvious like a 747).

So glad to see I’m not the only one getting triggered by the fact the 777 is mislabeled as a 747. Saw it floating around today and it irked me every time… So anyway here’s an updated version someone else made.

I am dyslexic, I can’t stand that font, despite trying very hard for quite some time. My favorite is Fast Mono based on fira code. And just for the record, yes, I read books in monospace.

Yeah, I agree. It’s quirky, its syntax is annoying, and a good ZSH setup is probably better… but I don’t have the time to do an actual ZSH setup.

Today I’m using Chimera, but KaOS, Arix or perhaps some unholy install of Alpine with DINIT are tempting me. Seems a persistent kernel panic on wake from sleep has been fixed, so I’m not super tempted to hop ATM.

I have used quite a number of “enthusiast” distros. Arch, Alpine, Void, NixOS, briefly Rawhide, others I am forgetting, and most recently Chimera. Arch is by far the simplest, easiest and stablest distro I have ever used, at least for what I want out of my computer.

Recently did an image search on regular DDG, no AI filter, and was astonished by how much AI slop I got. Like, at least half the results were slop. The filter isn’t great, but it’s better than nothing.

The largest “public” scientific institutions in the United States are the national labs. Most famously, Los Alamos, but also INL, Sandia, Oak Ridge, Fermilab, NREL, NTL and some others I am forgetting. From my experience, their mission tends to be less aligned with “doing science to benefit people,” and more aligned with, “doing science that’s too expensive or risky for businesses to do themselves.” Or, “doing science for ‘national security.’” You see very much the same thing at NASA, where they consult and do science on technologies expressly to benefit the business.

In comparison, the largest scientific institution in Europe is CERN, and is rather equivalent to the US’s national labs. Though I have no direct experience with CERN, from what I have seen from their experiments and practices, they tend to do science more for the sake of science compared with the American labs.

Granted, this is a vast oversimplification of the topic, but the point still stands, “the US government is aligned with companies that exploit science for profit.”
