The city I am forced to live in has a rat problem, to the point they’ll raid garden patches.

    Options are:

    A) Introduce an apex predator B) Stop growing food and live with the rats C) Use traps and poison

The neighbour opted for option A, so now I also have no rats, and I’ve yet to find a dead bird. Then again, I live in a country where the wildlife has adapted to cats as an apex predator long before I was even born.

  • I was there, young one, back when the ancient scripts were written.

T’was the early 00’s and I, as was fashionable at the time, used to use the information superhighway or “internet” as we call it now. Back then, a lot of men used to include “weight limits” on their dating profiles, catfishing being rather common back then. To counter this, a group of women started, and you’ll laugh here, adding “height minimums” to their dating profiles to poke fun at such presumptuous men.

Well, as you can imagine, those young men were so very angry, especially when fat-shaming became socially unacceptable, whereas height jokes became the norm.

Witticisms aside - the whole “height” issue incels raise has its roots in feminist trolling, which was aimed as a counter to weight shaming.

  • It can also translate to “I am too exhausted by continual political failures to engage with this”.

Let’s be honest a moment - capitalism sucks (it’s really just feudalism with extra steps), communism doesn’t really exist in the modern world (we have dictatorships masking as communism, real communism may never have existed), and the future looks to be solid dystopia. Revolution in all its forms gives birth to one of the two systems above.

All in all, engaging with politics these days feels rather like “we’re fucked aren’t we; but we could get them to use some lube; yes but we’d still fucked and people we like would be dead”

  • Academic here who has to mark student work.

They learn, approximately, jack shit when using AI incorrectly (I.e. they way the majority of the public use it). AI is a useful tool when used well (e.g. to generate solutions with errors to test knowledge); so far I see little evidence among students it is being well used.
