Linux@lemmy.ml•Linus: Linux is not one of those anti-AI projects, and if somebody has issues with that, they can do the open-source thing and fork it.English
71·4 days agoThere’s obviously a huge difference there. Video game NPC AI is closer to a complex flowchart than to genAI, at least traditionally - who knows what’s coming in the near future.
I’m not sure if you were being unreasonable by drawing the comparison (or by using the false comparison to intentionally instigate) or if they were being unreasonable by equating the two and banning you, but someone was.
I can’t look at this and not think about all of that sweat dripping down onto her face. That poor woman.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why shouldn't I be afraid of death?English
5·5 days agoA lot of it comes down to what you believe happens after you die. Personally, I believe we just stop existing, that nothing comes afterwards. I believe that when I die, it’ll be like going to sleep, I just won’t dream, and won’t wake up.
Going to sleep is, generally speaking, a very peaceful and pleasant experience. When I die, nothing going on in the world will matter anymore. All of my problems and worries will just instantly go away. Nothing I think matters actually will.
Personally, I find the prospect of there being nothing after death to be immensely comforting. I don’t fear it at all.

461·6 days agoIf they didn’t use AI and instead actively choice to terminate workers with disabilities and medical problems unfairly, that seems almost worse. Like, they’re just admitting to discrimination, aren’t they?
It’s like being accused of exercising poor gun safety leading to someone’s death and saying, “I exercise perfect gun safety, I actively chose to shoot them!”

Furry@pawb.social•[REUP FROM REDDIT] OK, guys. Let's settle on this debate once and for all. Where do you draw the line on what a furry is?English
4·8 days agoThat’s fair. Maybe that’s closer to how I feel, as well, now that you say it that way - but the underlying point still stands: furries are people, not characters.

Furry@pawb.social•[REUP FROM REDDIT] OK, guys. Let's settle on this debate once and for all. Where do you draw the line on what a furry is?English
15·8 days agoIt’s a weirdly worded question. I consider a “furry” to be a person who considers themself a member of the furry fandom. Characters aren’t “furries” (in my personal opinion).
If the spirit of the question is more about which characters fall under the “appeals to the furry fandom” umbrella, I’d say it’s any animal-based character exhibiting human-like qualities - can be body type (e.g. bipedal), mannerisms, or just human-like intelligence. (Animal Farm is an example of anthropomorphism in literature that’s just normal animals with human-like intelligence. I’d say it falls into the broad category.) Basically following the loosest definition of ‘anthropomorphic’. Lion King characters are another similar example. They have clear appeal to a lot of furries but would be excluded under a stricter definition.
Really, my opinion is that it’s better to cast a wider net than to potentially exclude someone based on their preferences.

Technology@lemmy.world•DOGE Officially Shuts Down as Trump Administration Ends Government Efficiency OfficeEnglish
40·9 days agoIt didn’t even make sense as a political move. I’d wager most MAGA folks had never heard of USAID or knew what they did, and it was at least helping the US’ reputation on the world stage.
Obviously the real value is the good it was doing all over the world, but for the Trump admin that couldn’t care less about that, it still made no sense to axe it.
That sounds like a challenge.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the minimum level of fame needed to avoid being cancelled?English
6·12 days agoYou’re fine, everyone knows what you mean; it’s spelled ‘canceled’. Other poster was just being a dick presumably because they find the term to be cringey.
Edit: I have been duly informed that ‘canceled’ is the American spelling while ‘cancelled’ is the British spelling, so you’re even more correct. :)

202·23 days agoThey specifically advertise it as an “upgradable alternative to the Steam Machine”; with that in mind, assuming the name isn’t intended to evoke comparisons to Steam Machine is kind of ridiculous, no?
Okay, you’re wildly conflating terms, and it’s making it impossible to carry on a conversation with you on this topic.
I mean there are literal websites devoted to all kinds of porn. Are you a prude about all of it, or only the furry sort? :P

Every time I come back here, I see this post and misread it as ‘Thanks for ruining it :)’ and it makes me momentarily angry until I realize what you actually said. So, thanks for that. :)
