Oh I know it. Irony or not, I know what I’m talking about and you’re yapping like a reactionary fool.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•My fellow 'Muricans, do you prefer metric or standard measurements?English
1·11 hours agoI already said it’s an effort I think is worth it.
Go ahead and try to convince the thousands of corporations that are willing to spend millions lobbying Congress to save pennies per product that they suddenly need to change over such an arbitrary detail…

2·11 hours agoNot US ones. Not the US wing of international ones.
Seriously, you do not fathom what I’m talking about…
For ONE example: Road signage. There are millions of mile markers in the US alone. That doesn’t include bigger signs, like, “X service in Y miles”. That doesn’t include a lot.
Do you know how much each mile marker sign costs, let alone the much bigger signage? Even at tens of dollars, that’s a lot of money, for one type of sign.
How many industries and other areas of daily life so you think include such verbiage?
Besides, I already said it’s an effort I think is worth it, so you’re just being a shithead.
Not a dog whistle. I’m most likely more progressive than you, but you keep trying to feel superior to others! That’s definitely not a part of the problem!
Two people can be right at the same time ;P
No, it’s really not a privilege, especially for any non-rich, not cleaned up white man. It’s what should be the minimum respect people are given for being conscious beings.

3·11 hours agoBoth. Previous admins were doing it. Only this one is dumb enough to admit it.
Maybe it’s not all men and using such generic language is akin to saying, “maybe the gays should stop being so flamboiyant if they want acceptance”?
Two things can be true at the same time. FFS, this oppression competition is beyond pathetic.
Nah. Many, many people who come from inside that peivilege are being naive. To think they’re trying to defend the privilege itself is exactly the problem coming from outside the blinders.
The “evil homosexuals” comment is trying to elucidate you to that reality for crying out loud, but noooo, you just want to make yourself feel better by pretending your choice of words cannot be perceived the same way…
From someone who grew up conservative and now hates conservative values… Your attitude is part of the problem.
Failure to communicate is a two way street, and you arguing the exact same phrasing is somehow magically not problematic from your side while being problematic from the other is exactly the issue OC’s talking about.
It is the exact same phrasing that others someone. Stop being OK with creating in groups and out groups by such simple terms as “white” or “homosexual”. Both forms of othering is bad communication unless you want to other and alienate. If you want to other someone simply living their life, especially over differences they didn’t even ask for, then you’re still part of the problem.
Instead of ‘male privilege’, “equality” or better, “equity”.
For “toxic masculinity”, I like, “machismo”, or better, “toxic machismo”, since not all sorts of masculine pride are harmful.
Stop arguing semmantics and understand what they’re saying! This is about communication, not being technically correct.
FFS, your post is exactly portraying the problem.
You even use a much better word: equality. Yet argue in favor of using a less effective word… Truly sad.
They’re moving away because capitalism makes them unaffordable. It has very little to do with how easy it is to manage or grow food or “live” in a city… When neither the average or median income pays enough, OFC people are going to move out to cheaper places when they can…
If only it were so easy.
I would definitely say most do not know how harmful these corporations are. Most people expect dangerous things to be illegal, or self evident like knives and guns. These are neither. Same with every other danger that magically goes unregulated or deregulated any time a piece of shit dumbass conservative gets power…
Because morons don’t understand dangers. Especially ones that are not self-evident.
Yep, most people are painfully stupid and wouldn’t understand the problem even if you explained the details to them.
I think the best way is to spell out the creep factor in the simplest terms possible, and a way I’ve heard recently that I really like is:
“I don’t worry about the people who want to close their blinds, but those that want to peep through concern me greatly.”
Might blind people if you could even manage to get them that bright without extra glowing or obvious power sources.

Basic respect and zero assumptions about intent are a solid start. Those ARE NOT privileges, but what any honest person engaging with someone or something should expect… Someone should be able to ask a basic question about a service you are providing with zero assumptions made as to what you expect as a result or a cost, as a basic example.
Seriously, how is this confusing??
