  • They are absolutely not, you are either extremely dumb or have been living under a rock your whole life. It’s not even a “recent time should have made you realise it”, right wing politics have been objectively bad for way longer than anyone alive at the moment (I admit that I don’t know the full history of the left/right political climate, so I’m not gonna say that what the general idea of right wing politics is has always been bad, I realised I need to learn more about it and will do so).

It’s literally right wing “we want to control people and hate anyone who is different” vs left wing “we just want everyone, independent on their gender, skin color, where they’re from, economical status etc. to be ok”. Current American Republicans vs Democrats is not even close to a good scale of “right vs left” and it’s not even a good scale and representation of historical American Republicans vs Democrats, it’s all so fucked.

  • I did NOT buy an Android phone for anything Google, what they have said or anything else. I have one because I got a good deal and I can remove everything Google about it. And this deal gives me a new phone biennially while keeping the same monthly price which means I can give my previous phone to the family member of friend who is most in need of one and would be most affected economically by having to buy one themselves. I’d easily choose and iPhone over an Android one if they were similarly locked, I think Google (Alphabet) is the more evil of the two, while both are of course not good at all. That’s not the case though, yet at least.

Having been on long term sick leave for 15 years means you have to do something with your time and I spend a lot of it learning new things to various depths. I now understand why some (though not all) older people are angry: when you know a lot about a lot you see how bad many things are. There’s so much inefficiency, shit design, shit quality, shit shit everywhere. It hard to not let it get to you.

  • Nice! I’m from and still live in the same city that Mullvad is from. See people with Mullvad and other privacy, foss etc. stickers on their bags around town pretty often. Just a few days ago I saw a dude with a white hard cover backpack with a huge Mullvad sticker in the middle and a “Make Orwell fiction again” sticker right below it, I had to compliment him on it and we had a chat for a bit about the fediverse and other stuff!

Edit: ooh, forgot that there was Mullvad ads on the trams and tramstops all over the city a while back, was awesome to see something local you actually like and support like that!

  • No way to really check but I’m pretty sure it’s Minecraft. Played it since the very first public build, it’s been less and less each year the past few years but it has to be over 5000 hours total. Got over 2000 hours in Warframe, Destiny 2, Rocket League and over 1000 hours in No Man’s Sky, Terraria, Starbound, Halo 1, 2, 3 and Reach. There’s surely one or two games more that I’m not remembering ATM and over 500 hours in many, many others.

Yes, I play games a lot, and a lot of games.

  • I have to use Ubuntu (22.04 specifically) because I’m stuck with a 15yo laptop that can’t handle much at all so I game via Shadow which only supports that Ubuntu version… it sucks and it’s dumb but it’s the best option. It’s a constant fight against making it not auto update and run things automatically. If I have Shadow running and anything else becomes active the laptop goes into full jet engine mode and I have to pause the game or whatever I’m doing on the Shadow client, and often close it completely, or else it all crawls to a complete stop. It seems no matter what I do it refuses to stop qutomatically checking for updates whenever it feels like it via the several apps used to do so (software updater, snap store etc.). It does this a few times a day, it’s so fucking annoying but nothing I’ve tried fully works. I dream of getting to use Linux Mint, Arch and a few other distros, but so far it doesn’t seem like Shadow will expand their Linux support.

  • You only say that because of how it is, not how it could be.
Here in Sweden we have smaller busses that go outside the normal (which are pretty extensive themselves) areas that you call to book beforehand, they’re like vans with 10 seats that drive on demand to get you from where you are to the nearest mass transit point.

Combining every city having good buss networks well outside the main cities with the above mentioned and a train network throughout the whole country means you can get pretty much anywhere via public transit. I’ve traveled from my city, Gothenburg, to a very remote area near a place called Arvidsjaur which is 1,200km north of here like that. Starting with trams to a sleeper train to a buss to those on demand busses, I think it took about 16 hours in total.

Reading your comment gave me whiplash from the cultural difference of James Bond and a trendy word with 12 year olds from 5 years ago. Every generation will have words that are popular and a few of those are fine, anyone using the word “fire” like you have is absolutely not one of those, especially now when you couldn’t even blame it on trying to be trendy. It was always an excruciatingly “I’m 9 years old and trying to sound cool” word and you should cringe qqt yourself for the rest of your life for not realising that.
