These huge country-wide protests after the Vuelta Ciclista sabotage have been fed by the energy of the student strike of the 2nd of October called by the Students Union and a multitude of pro-Palestinian organizations such as “Acampada por Palestina”, with the main goal of forcing the government to stop trade and diplomatic relations with the Zionist entity, and in defense of Palestinian resistance and freedom from occupation.

The protests have by far been the biggest Madrid has seen since the massive 8th of March feminist protests of the past decade. The crowd was so packed and the streets were so full of people coming, that we (my org and I) couldn’t physically move forward for well over an hour and a half from the amount of people that were crowding the streets. The biggest part of the protest lasted from 18:00 to beyond 22:00 because people simply didn’t want to leave, and beyond 1AM there were still people occupying the biggest street of Madrid.

The third biggest union in Spain by membership, CGT, is already pushing for a General Strike on the 15th of October, and after this protest I don’t think that the state-controlled UGT and CCOO unions will be able to keep pushing back the strike. Especially I think I need to talk about the role of the brave Sumud Flotilla and the Italian strikes as two catalysts of this antizionist activity. We could hear even more radical chants in the protests such as “no es terrorismo, es resistencia” (it’s not terrorism, it’s resistance), which is a huge step forward in recognizing the brave resistance of Gaza to occupation. Free Palestine, death to the genocidal Zionist entity, and push, push, push for general strikes!

Spanish leadership is far from genuinely dedicated. It’s taken spontaneous mass civil disobedience in several of the biggest countries of Spain (the sabotage of La Vuelta Ciclista that I posted about past week) for the central government to react in any way. They’re using the boat as a mild concession to let off some steam. It’s still a concession though, and proof that mass movements and grassroots civil disobedience can pressure the government to take action, which is why we call for huge protest on the 4th of October, and for student strike on the 2and of October, in order to force the unions to summon a general strike against the genocide, like Italy.

Huge tide of civil disobedience as pro-Palestinian protestors took the streets of Madrid and forced the shutdown of the last section of the Spanish Vuelta Ciclista as a protest against the presence of the Isn’treali team.

This is a very significant event: a mass of above 100k protestors (by gvt estimates) flooded the streets without any organization overtly coordinating, since protests today weren’t allowed due to the Vuelta Ciclista. This is a total victory of class struggle against Zionism, and is the first time since the 15-M/occupy movement days that such an act of civil disobedience takes place in the capital of Spain.

The goal of the protest is mainly to force the big unions to declare a general strike for Palestine, and the Sindicato de Estudiantes (students union) has already summoned an education strike on October 2nd, two days before the next big protests which will take place on the 4th of October on a state-wide event.

This day followed the example of the Italian harbour strikes, and the previous big protests against la Vuelta Ciclista in Euskal Herria. Free Palestine from the river to the sea!

I feel fucking anxious like I haven’t felt in years.

I was sent back to Germany for work for a few weeks, I’ve lived here for 3 years. I lived here, found a long term partner, we lived together for over a year, and then had a messy breakup.

It’s been about 3 years since then, but walking through the streets of this city is like walking through my old life, full of memories that now are bitter and sad. I shouldn’t be sad because it’s been years and now I’m in a long term relationship with another woman, but damn, walking through here feels like trauma.

I texted her to see each other just to get a bit of closure and catch up, and she said it’s fine but that she’s pregnant and engaged, and asked if I’m okay with that, and that shocked me in a way I didn’t expect. Why the fuck am I still affected by her? It’s been years, I have another life in another country now, and still it’s crazy how I’m anxious all day since she told me and literally had a nightmare about it last night.

I am happy for her, I’m glad she found a life and happiness, and I also feel like I “dodged a bullet” in the sense that I’m not ready for children or marriage and that would have been a huge friction point come the time, and I am happy with my current partner with whom I have a better relationship than I ever had with anyone. So why the fuck am I so anxious? I’m aware I’m overthinking, but I can’t really stop it for more than a few minutes at a time. I just wanna go back to my life in Spain and forget about all this, but again: why so affected?

No struggle to speak of, locally. There have been some sizeable protests in all of Spain because of rent prices, but the socdem government will obviously do absolutely nothing about it. My org calls for a rent strike, let’s just say my share of optimism is purely revolutionary hahaha. Young libs call mostly for social housing and rent, but that’s absolutely a half measure which socdems focus on since it’s an easy key-dangling to do to build 1000 flats and to say “look we did something, but there’s nothing more we can do”, hence it being peddled in mass media.

I do think young people are truly worried about it, but they won’t support rent strike because there’s been super strong anti-occupy propaganda on TV for the past 10 years. For reference, home-alarm companies rose their profits by over 500% over the past years because of the manufactured fear against squatters. It’s crazy, they’ve been dedicating half hour of prime time during news for years talking about squatters, lying using the “cops can’t legally kick squatters out of your house” myth which half of the country believes, etc. There’s even a well-known Nazi group called “Desokupa” which is praised in media as an unofficial service for freeing poor landlords from evil squatters (i.e. literal physical violence against the materially poorest people). Ridiculously enough, this Nazi group was TEACHING COPS HOW TO USE GUNS some months ago. If you wrote this in a move script about corrupt fascist police people would say it’s not believable.

Maybe this isn’t news worthy to everyone, but I wanted to post regardless because it’s important to me (Spanish): Rent prices in my hometown rise to 8th highest in Spain

With an interannual rise of 13%, of which 6 percent points over the past three months, the prices now stand above 20€/m² for the first time ever. This is the town I’ve been born in, raised, and lived until I was 23, and now that I’m back in Spain after some years abroad I’ve been outpriced from the town where I grew, as have been many of my friends. 20€/m² may not sound like a lot to fellow USian comrades, but salaries in Spain aren’t what they are over there. An average salary may be something like 1600-1800€ a month for a full time job, so a very modest 60m² flat would set you back monthly 1200€ of that.

I wanted to share my pain, my family and some of my friends are here, and while I didn’t necessarily plan to live here all my life (and I don’t live here now, partially because of the prices), it absolutely fucking sucks knowing that I won’t be able to have a life here the same way my parents have had. When someone tells me about dangerous communism and forcible relocations during the literal direst times in modern history, I can’t help but feel like people are absolutely blind to the millions who are economically forced to relocate in capitalism during times of peace and abundance. But I guess, as always, economic violence doesn’t fucking count because I could technically choose to shove myself into a sardine-can apartment with 2 strangers while still dropping 1/3 of my income monthly to make the landlord richer. I have to live more than an hour away and buy a car and pollute the air and empty my wallet in the process to be able to see my fucking family. At least I can listen to socialist podcasts on the way telling me how monthly rent was 3% of the average income in the Soviet Union 55 years ago lmfao
