SMG4 is one that comes to mind, having watched his channel since its early days. His older videos, while clearly lacking polish and obviously made by a teenager, were actually funny and memorable. As time went on though, his content started to slip. Sure, the production quality improved as he started Glitchy Boy and later Glitch Productions, but the humour ended up becoming secondary as he switched from self-contained episodes to various “seasons” with ongoing storylines. It meant you had to keep up with every episode to know wtf was going on (the same mistake South Park made), and his attempt at making the series more of a drama than a comedy meant that the humour was more of a distraction that made it hard to take the drama seriously. Why should I believe Mario will die this time if I’ve seen him survive being blown up, set on fire and shot dozens of times before? Some of the best characters (Bowser, Toad, etc) ended up taking a backseat to his numerous OCs as well, and the voice acting sucked compared to back when everyone spoke with various meme clips and subtitles.

SMG4 was at its best when it was a bunch of multicoloured Marios just doing random funny shit, and didn’t take itself seriously one bit. It’s pretty clear Luke’s passion is with Glitch’s other productions, hence why SMG4 finally ended.

Siren enthusiast here. The fire siren has likely been there for longer than you and any of the firefighters there, and in fact fire sirens predate the concept of an “air raid siren”. Originally they were used to summon volunteer firefighters to the station, and many still are commonly used alongside the pagers in case the firefighters don’t have their pagers or there’s an issue with them. In an emergency, this can and does save lives.

The sirens also serve a secondary purpose in alerting traffic to clear the roads for the responding fire engines and letting the victims of the fire know that help is on the way. Many fire sirens also act as a noon whistle which doubles as a test to ensure it works when needed.

Mechanical sirens are extremely reliable and require very little maintenance, so they can always be counted on to work when they’re needed. Radios and pagers aren’t always as reliable. While you might not enjoy the noise, they’re an important part of keeping you and the community safe.

There’s a neighbourhood in New York that had a whole ass siren to announce Shabbos. And not a small one, it was a Sentry 40V2T which is one of the loudest outdoor warning sirens produced today. Needless to say that got shut down years ago.

I love MKWii and the mods for it, but god does the game have the worst item balancing in the series. The AIs are all constantly spamming POW Blocks and Blue Shells, which often get rid of your item right as a Red Shell or two are headed your way. There’s no invincibility buffer after getting hit by the Blue Shell either, so you get hit by the Reds too. The fact the Blue Shell instantly stops you in place while sending you flying upwards instead of sending you flying forwards like in other Mario Karts means it’s an even worse time loss. And it’s not uncommon to get hit by multiple in one lap.

Still my favourite Mario Kart, just very frustrating sometimes.

The ROM hacking scene has had so many awesome hacks recently, I can hardly keep up! I’ve been playing Elite Redux and Emerald Rogue a lot recently, and heavily enjoyed Unbound and Gaia. There’s a bunch of new DS hacks coming that are looking very promising too, including ones with original regions. We may very well see a DS hacking renaissance soon!
