This. I have run fundraising offices in multiple cities. There’s often one or two “trashy” people in each office, who could learn people’s names but don’t, who insist that everything they do is perfect and others need to change to see it, who love being loud and living large themselves but won’t respect other’s choices or beliefs even in shared professional spaces. They litter. They steal from people they know. They often hide behind a veneer of religious faith, to deflect criticism. They refuse to learn, or reflect upon their actions with anything but praise.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What habit do you possess that seems very normal to you, but would seem odd to anyone else?
61·1 month agoHave a very large vocabulary and go out of my way to avoid utilizing the same noun or adjective more than once in a conversation. Also keeping multiple conversations on different topics going at once with any people in the same room, a habit I learned/inherited from my ADHD physician mother who was always on calls while talking to my brother and I and also making dinner at the same time.

3·1 month agoGotta make the nest! I do this when sleeping alone, and also will lift my feet for just a moment to let the blankets swing under and complete the human burrito feeling. I just love to feel completely held, supported, nested, wrapped.
Goodr is the answer. Only $25, look as good as Ray bans or better, lots of color choices, and they have this plastic coating on the nose arch that you don’t notice or think you need, until the first time you happen to run, sweat, or look down and all other sunglasses flop around your face. Goodrs stay in place!
Also, never get aviators if you have hair longer than 1", the nose pads will get tangled.

It’s impossible for me to forget that all bees (& wasps & ants) are order HYMENOPERTA, literally named for them being 99% virgin females
So I am totally stumped.
As a person who has an abnormal number of bottlecaps for hobby reasons, thank you for making me feel rich! Also, why would anyone else want these?

1·8 months agoI know our life sucks. That is exactly why meditation is so helpful, and important. You can easily do a gratitude meditation - breathe in thinking about something you’re thankful for, breathe out letting that gratitude flow down from your head through your body. This will instantly help your body and brain feel better. Other meditations help us separate what we want (everything to be better) from what we actually need (air, water, food, a place to sit), and see that we cause our own suffering through attachments to our expectations, which finally gives you a real way to stop hurting yourself constantly, by letting go of the weapons you use. You already hold the key. There is honestly, no judgement in meditation. Just keep gently guiding yourself back to your breath and/or whatever you are trying to focus on, and let yourself just be you for a while. It’s surprisingly helpful.
To reduce steps, I keep the electric kettle on the counter. Then it’s just steps 5-12. But you also forgot step 10.B = forget about tea, and 10.C = remember tea and try to figure out where you left it.

Transfem@lemmy.blahaj.zone•Is at-home laser/electrolysis worth it? Does it work?English
11·10 months agoNote: not MTF
If you’re light skinned, oh yeah does it work. I used on my legs for 6 weeks, once a year for 2 years in a row, and now the hair that did regrow is so much thinner and lighter that I didn’t even shave this summer. Whoever is saying it can’t be used on face - not true, get one with a facial attachment. Whoever is saying it takes a long time or isn’t effective - I was shaving weekly anyway (which you have to do before each treatment) and lasering my legs I got down to 20 minutes; it’s not much extra time but it had a drastic effect on my comfort level going more than 2 days without shaving. Doesn’t work on my darker private bits but for legs, body, pits, and face, it was a complete game changer for me. I got the Braun silk expert pro 5 back in 2023. I would look for one with a better continuous-pulse now, but am otherwise quite satisfied.
Isn’t it

Goth, Punk, Rockabilly And Alternative Lifestyles@hilariouschaos.com•What colors have you died your hair? Which was your favorite?
2·1 year agoDone all the colors by now. Started with red and black, moved through fire-hues like red orange and pink, tried green, have finally settled these days on a nice pink-purple-blue-teal ombre, which looks nice and mermaidy in my wavy hair. Hardest to keep in is reds and pinks, easiest to keep is blue and green. I love blues and teal because they suit my eyes and skin tone - red and pink make me look flushed, but I do keep pink and purple around my face to keep things bright and fun and show some contrast & movement. Every Sunday I take some me time to refresh any fading colors, try to paint my nails, and take a nice long shower to wash out the dye. Edit to add: if you have medium length hair or longer, pay a professional to do your bleach! I do all my own color, but having someone do the bleach keeps my hair really healthy, even with lots of dye and product. When I did my own bleach, I had to keep cutting my hair shorter and shorter because I would always fry it somewhere and it would get frizzy.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Whats an absurd luxury you enjoy every day in your life?
3·2 years agoGet a hot tub. My partner and I are both tall and both love to relax in hot water. Now we get to submerge our tense monkey bodies in our personal hot spring and just float any damn day we want to, for as long as we want to. It’s great for our relationship. Plus, foot jets! We spent $7k on ours- a true luxury- but it was one of the best health / self care purchases I’ve ever made in my entire life.

As someone with a 5-year old, please define “children,” because that is definitely not how they see their friends. They had one other child at 2.5 years, in preschool, who they both just naturally GRAVITATED to each other - not because they were getting anything out of it than mutual friendship. That friend has since moved away, devastating, and they do have other friends, but all other friendships pale in comparison. It’s been amazing to watch how true friendship will just blossom randomly in the world.
