No one person, thing, or organization I regularly interact with has tried as hard as lemmy.world to convince me she is some kinda fucked up spoiler effect politics demon.

Maybe dems should actually try to make ranked choice voting happen for real, instead of lip service to the idea, if they want the people who prefer third parties to support them. And maybe dems should attempt to do anything at all to address the concerns of the third party voters, instead of just threatening them with trump some more. Just some ideas that might alleviate the problem more effectively than getting really mad at people on the internet.

Last year I was bothered by the randomness of fonts even in single words and sentences, and started that font guide thing. Immediately afterwards I tried to plan a nicer looking frame for it that can fit more, and have it for this event if anyone wants that or cares.

I also want to get anyone’s opinions on changing letters to be better if you have ideas, because I’m sure I’m not the best at this but I want it to be appealing enough to use.

The main 2 things I tried to focus on is readability, and making sure each symbol can fit in 5x3 pixels.

Oh they do all breakfast foods. Get bacon and eggs or some other fried something if you want.

Eh I feel like that is semantics. If we are specific and refer to how individuals adapt to be lactose tolerant, you could still say “humans evolved to drink milk” instead in reference to how the population of humans that could adapt and become lactose tolerant grew in relation to humans that couldn’t.

Don’t appeal to evolution, evolution is weird. Evolution just does whatever survival says. If we can survive drinking milk, evolution is cool with it. But evolution is weird, evolution will be all like “You like cows milk huh? That’s cool, have you considered shrinking down and losing your brain and most internal organs to become a nipple latching milk parasite? No? Ok, I’ll ask again later.”

Can I ask what comm you thought this was? I don’t want to be an asshole but people seem lost on lemmy not infrequently… I’m wondering what it’s about.

To be clear if you hadn’t realized this is the anarchist community, hosted on an instance that I believe is owned (or maybe just operated by?) by the main mod of the anarchism community. This is their “respective platform”.

I was there, I can form my own opinions, thanks. It was hyperbole, but that was the general level of arguments being made.

If you want left unity, it was a nonsensical way to behave. It was just more sectarianism. It does make sense as a way to behave if you just wanna argue… So thats what I assume the real intent was.

I’m not sure I really agree with your first point, I think finding a way to find allys in all leftists would be worth it, even if it has a dark history. Things can be better.

But holy shit their reaction was intense. And the idea that their arguments were in defense of left unity was pretty silly… 99% of it was just “anarchists wrong and evil”, and there is wild amounts of sectarianism going on just within hexbear that I’m sure lent energy to this.

I respect how you reacted under pressure. I really respect any admin of a website that can show that much restraint when dealing with personal attacks and people you explicitly disagree with.

But yeah the lethality of leftist infighting is maybe a topic that deserves more delicate conversations than memes.

I remember so many nuclear stans on lemmy a bit ago refusing to acknowledge that renewables are getting so good and cheap that they are more important to solving climate change than nuclear. I wonder how they feel seeing investors pull out in favor of renewables?

These threads are odd to me, considering how many people call all communists tankies. The word seems to be used by anarchists, conservatives, communists, anti-communists, and more, and every person has a slightly different definition.

Half the people here could consider the other half to be the tankies everyone is mad at.

To be clear this isn’t me saying “be nice to the tankies” this is me saying “the overuse of this word is confusing the shit out of me.”

Are we going to stop the entire logging industry because it takes away bird’s nesting space? If you consider the peripheral waste involved in their production it is only fair to do the same for everything else, and when you do, solar and wind still win. And it’s only going to get better, we are refining and recycling the rare materials involved better and better every year. We are kindof in the golden age of solar power improvements.

Wind and solar > nuclear > fossil fuels

Nothing really against nuclear except how it is being weilded as a distraction from better, cleaner, energy. We need to be going all in on converting everything to wind and solar, with batteries and other power storage like water pumping facilities filling the gaps.

Nuclear needs a few more issues figured out, like how to actually cheaply build and get power from all those touted newer cleaner reactor styles.

Car dealerships. They are awful on purpose. In many places car manufacturers are not legally allowed to sell their cars directly to customers, in order to create what is essentially legally mandated car dealerships, which all suck.

it was actually a sign from someone with the username “scew” that was there before the blahaj got started. for a while the people from blahaj couldn’t decide between changing it or removing it, so it went through a lot of iterations, but it seems they deleted it entirely in the end.

a shame tbh, that they picked a spot someone else had already worked in, and couldn’t handle it being in the middle of their stuff.
