Programmer Humor@programming.dev•reason enough to fail the interview
2·1 month agoSubmerging the sphere gives you the volume. You’re thinking of the legend of Archimedes who measured volume this way and measured mass with an ordinary scale and deduced the density from those two values.

Programming.dev Meta@programming.dev•Have you considered alternatives to Cloudflare?
1·1 month agoThe ‘browser incompatibility’ is what’s written on the fallback page. The question was about the problem that migration from Cloudflare would solve and I provided one particular problem. Not that it affects me personally, because I use a standalone app for Lemmy, but I assume there are some people that do not wish to run Cloudflare js

Programming.dev Meta@programming.dev•Have you considered alternatives to Cloudflare?
1·1 month agoExactly that, Cloudflare complains about extensions. It’s a matter of aggressive tracking protection. I can view Anubis protected sites just fine, only the Cloudflare ones prevent access.

Programming.dev Meta@programming.dev•Have you considered alternatives to Cloudflare?
4·1 month agoI use Firefox Focus on my mobile and I can’t enter sites with CloudFlare because it says my browser is incompatible. It gets annoying when I ramp up my privacy on the Internet and sites outright refuse to load if they see I don’t allow cookies and trackers. I’d rather see broken js-free website than pitch black CloudFlare page.

Privacy@programming.dev•YSK: you can still view Reddit posts anonymously
3·2 months agoI also recommend LibRedirect, it has lots of sites covered like Reddit, StackExchange, Twitter and even Geeks for Geeks

Programming@programming.dev•Dynamic directory creation in GNU Make?
2·2 months agoOh right, that was not the whole Makefile, only the part that caused problems. As @fruitcantfly@programming.dev pointed out, it breaks down with more
SOURCEfiles and populates the newly created directories with only the firstSOURCEfile. After some more poking and reading I found a method that works by usingdefine:define rule $(DESTINATION)/$(shell echo $(notdir $(1)) | sed -E 's/^([0-9]{4})-([0-9]{2})-([0-9]{2})-(.*)\.md$$/\1\/\2\/\3\/\4.md/'): $(1) | $(DESTINATION)/$(shell echo $(notdir $(1)) | sed -E 's/^([0-9]{4})-([0-9]{2})-([0-9]{2})-(.*)\.md$$/\1\/\2\/\3/') /bin/bash ./myscript.sh $$< > $$@ endef $(foreach f,$(SOURCE),$(eval $(call rule,$(f))))I feel like this is an abuse of Make, but it works. When is it a good idea to delegate the building process to other tools?

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•Seems relevant to this sub, Sketchfab was sold to a company called KitBashEnglish
51·2 months agoSketchfab is well-known in 3D rendering and gamedev communities. I don’t think it has many print-friendly models.

Godot@programming.dev•Noob question about instancing and variables
4·2 months agoIt was “Local to Scene” tick in the AtlasTexture’s Resource group that had to be checked to make the atlas unique to an instance. Thank you.

Godot@programming.dev•Noob question about instancing and variables
4·2 months agoYes, that was it. Thank you! So even though the instance has unique variables, the settings of a texture are not unique by default?

3·4 months agoOh, then maybe a better word would be ‘depressing’ or ‘alarmist’ depending on your angle. I found it amusing that they didn’t shy away from the topics of bullying and peer pressure enabled by unrestricted access to technology, while also not succumbing to typical ‘technology bad’ trope. Imo the message was very well balanced, but that’s just Pixar being Pixar.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What are your self–hosted alternatives for inter device communication?English
2·4 months agoI use KDE Connect. Works well with Tailscale when I’m outside my home network.
Minecraft recently changed its versioning scheme so the next release will be Minecraft 26.

3·1 year agoThank you, you brought up a good point about them selling data. What alternatives do you suggest to expose my service to the internet for personal use away from home?
Thank you. I thought that maybe there is some more ‘official’ way of such tile composition, but if not, then I will settle for some clever tile design to maximize reusability, at least for now. I don’t want to overcomplicate things just yet.

Minecraft@lemmy.world•I made my Minecraft competitive guide have a website!English
3·1 year agoHey, it’s a great resource! I would put the table of contents on the main page or put a link to the first post, because now it’s hidden behind hamburger menu (at least on mobile) and the first impression is that the page has no content. Also you have a lot of None pages that show 404.

Thank you, your words motivate me to push forward. I’ll check out those Steam games for inspiration.
