Ahhh thank you for the clarification. I tried to play the recording back and yeah, it was a mess. No colour and blurry as hell. It was a fascinating experiment if nothing else.

Doesn’t Matrix also have ties to AI/cryptobro bullshit too?

Right, thank you I’ll try to keep this in mind. What do you mean by the TV supporting it though? Like I said, CRTs have no pixels to the best of my understanding, so how would it be aware of the resolution in order to reject it? I can understand it causing problems, but how exactly can a CRT outright reject a signal like that?

I know, though it is a bit worrying that it was there in the first place

There aren’t better ways, not in their current forms.

Thankfully, Mint allows me to output in 4:3 aspect ratio. Now, if the actual resolution will still be an issue, then yeah, I suppose I’ll need that. But if I send a converter a ~720p 4:3 signal and it outputs it to composite, what does it matter to the CRT that doesn’t have pixels anyway?

Ohhh as soon as you started talking about frequencies I realized the issue. I never even thought about how high video frequencies are. That should have been my first thought. Now, that said, I’ll still give this a go. My interface does have a stupid high sample rate it can use, and if i use a DAW like Ardour and set it to ALSA mode, it should talk directly to the interface with no PulseAudio or PipeWire in the middle to limit that rate. I’ll try it tomorrow!
Edit: re-read your comment and remembered that my interface goes up to 196khz or something! This MIGHT work!

Sadly it does not take VGA but I do have an old laptop with native VGA out so I could convert that to composite easier. VGA is already an analog format, right?

Yeah that makes sense. I’ll have a look into VGA converters, thanks for the tip!

I’d have to go back and find the comment where someone told ME but at that rate I should just search for it myself. I’ll bookmark this comment so I don’t forget to.

Hmm, okay I’ll consider cheaper options. Thanks for the feedback. Latency isn’t too much to deal with I take it if you’ve been sing it for that long.

Funny you say that, because I have an old laptop that has a native VGA output on board and I’m testing it out right now! It works and Mint outputs through it just fine, but I’d need to get a VGA to composite adapter. Buuuut, if I’m gonna do that, I might as well just get an HDMI to composite adapter for the compatibility.
Also, any USB to composite/s video/component adapters? That sounds like a great workaround.
Also yeah, I know latency will exist, but it can always be minimized.

Be weary of Stoat. I hear they used AI “generated” code in their software and only quit it because they got caught.

None unfortunately. That’s why I’m asking about composite specifically. My only other option is RF lmao
Pfft yeah that’s very fair
I have genuinely wondered how many… looks up “foot doctor” …podiatrists are into feet, how many of them aren’t and are sick of being asked/accused, and how many are in the unenviable position of having a foot fetish while also being genuinely interested in the medical field of podiatry, thereby finding themselves in a never ending war between the two.
…What was this post about again?

Indeed has something like that now? It’s bad enough that empolyers use this shit to write the job descriptions, then use it to reject our resumes without reading them, but now the job hosting site itself is shoving it down our throats.
“Hey, I got an idea how we can stop this worsening of the already inherently flawed job market. Let’s fight fire with fire, grease fires with water, and napalm with more napalm! Works every time.”

You hit the nail on the head, my friend.

Assuming they are disabled, which a passerby like myself cannot be expected to know, that does not excuse the deliberate choice to use ethically unsound technology. It’s especially true in this case, as even if a disability limits your potential as a visual artist, you’ll gladly commission somebody if you have any respect for the craft. I know this because I too have such a disability, and it hurts. It hurts knowing I might forever depend on the hands of others to bring some of my ideas to life, but you know what? That only strengthens my appreciation of visual artists and their work. I’d rather commission a talented artist to mix my silly brainwaves with their personal flourishes and create something meaningful, ten times over, then throw some words at an industrialized theft machine to get soulless slop.
Okay, I see. Thanks for the heads up. Are there any specific scalers I should consider for minimizing latency that you’re aware of?
