World News@lemmy.world•Israel’s death penalty bill for Palestinian prisoners moves to final vote
3·23 days ago@rwrwefwef @world I don’t think it was criminal. Pretty sure the Nazis passed laws that made the Holocaust legal in Nazi Germany.

Technology@lemmy.world•How Much Do LLMs Hallucinate in Document Q&A Scenarios? A 172-Billion-Token Study Across Temperatures, Context Lengths, and Hardware Platforms [TLDR: 25%]
1·1 month ago@eceforge @technology I never understood why we don’t just call it “lying”. I mean, I understand why AI companies don’t call it that, but that’s what it is and I don’t think we’re helping ourselves by using a euphemism

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Popular self-hosting services worth running
32·1 month ago@GaMEChld @selfhosted I kinda got this running and I’m here to tell you - unless you’re willing to babysit it through the constant changes and updates and dependency hell that creates, you might be better off just paying for api use at something like https://fal.ai/

Technology@lemmy.world•BYD Reveals the ‘World’s Longest-Range EV’ as American Auto Industry Struggles to Keep Pace
1·1 month ago@yabbadabaddon @technology Unfortunately this is no longer the case. While China 10-20 years ago definitely bootstrapped itself with corporate espionage and reverse engineering, so did every country including the United States. The China of today produces its own fundamental research at a rate comparable to the US, and given the structural failures of our educational system, will exceed the US over the next 5 years.
Not recognizing that and making excuses is the sign of a country in decline.

Technology@lemmy.world•Ars Technica makes up quotes from Matplotlib maintainer("An AI Agent Published a Hit Piece on Me"); pulls story
128·2 months ago@sartalon @technology Yeah, I have a lot more trust in the reputation that Ars has built over a decade of solid reliable tech journalism than I do in a random matplotlib maintainer - I’ve interacted with maintainers before. They’re not wrong about agents, but not sure how that’s any different from any human doing the same.

Technology@lemmy.world•Union leaders have a message for Newsom: Regulate AI if you want to be president
13·2 months ago@hector @technology This is how Trump wins - everyone in the anti-Trump bucket has their own purity test like this is a fucking breakfast buffet and not an existential threat. Starting to think Americans have degenerated to the point where we don’t deserve Democracy.
DEVO was right.

@Evade5415 @nostupidquestions We should rename Kansas to Ur-Kansas. You know, to avoid confusion.
