Linux Mint@lemmy.ml•[SOLVED] How can i make the terminal continually print its output to a file?
3·10 days agoThanks for the link, what a good explanation. Although reading through stderr gave me the impression its written by an LLM because of the use of 2>>
Appending stderr output using 2>> (append mode): ls non_existent_file 2>> error_log.txt
gfg0622 @Anshu-ka-lappi:-$ cat error_log.txt ls: cannot access 'non existent file': No such file or directory ls: cannot access 'non 'non_exist existent file 2': No such file or directory

1·10 days agoYou’re looking for a log file, most probably hidden in the home folder. Quick online search only led me to server and modloader log files. I did find a relevant thread on reddit though, maybe its a step in the right direction.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is something you can see, hear, smell, etc., that others can't?
16·10 days agoThat’s a wonderful superpower! I can hear cars or footsteps approaching before my friends realise them, but high-pitched electric mole traps and ticking clocks can be annoying. Listening to music with good hearing is like taking drugs though. You should check out well-mastered music, commonly going as audiophile music.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What little things do you do each day that are your small ways of sticking it to the man?
19·11 days agoFor articles which won’t let you disable cookies there’s usually an archived version somewhere. Or you use some current alternative to 12ft. Or you ask an LLM to summarize the URL.

Buy European@feddit.uk•I read Chat Control regulation so you don't have toEnglish
26·12 days agoThanks for going through the legislature and confirming the points. I’m skeptical about new chat control legislatures going forward though. Its the start of the boiling frog. The first few are more anti-hype than anything but once everyone understands chat control ain’t bad that’s when they can put out laws which really discomfort chat app users because people won’t check up on new laws as often since they’ve been good before. Like doing a Trump for conservatives.
Maybe someone got promoted by a youtuber. I know of Luke Damant who did that in Kiberia in hopes of arranging a steady income for a boy from the slum.
Okay so I’m not a native speaker and I hope I’m not the only one concerned with the use of IDEAL SIZE FOR BRATS

12·21 days agoNot talking them good here but if they’re genuinely serious about their interest in music then I think it’s beautiful how AI opened up their world. Imagine someone sitting on their sorry ass because they can neither play any instruments nor have any skills for PC software but AI can help them feel important!

Linux@lemmy.ml•Frustrated Windows users are switching to Linux because of Microsoft’s Windows 11 shenanigans
4·23 days agoWhich distro did you stay on? I was trying Manjaro but Plasma had random freezes and stutters all the time, XFCE felt like an unfinished product and GNOME was even worse than XFCE. Solus Budgie gave me only black screens, and most others also didn’t run well on my old machine. Linux Mint runs stable so far and looks stunning and it also runs my games better than Windows 10 so that’s a win.

66·29 days agoI’ve had the exact opposite happen. I’ve known Windows most of my life and now that I had to switch to Linux, I wanted to customize it. I was looking for a way to cycle through a whole background folder at random. In windows that was easy, just tell it to cycle through that folder. In Linux I couldn’t find any option, not even in the documenration. Skimming through the internet I was reading through threads and forums and they were talking about moving the pictures to /usr/shr/backgrounds but that’s not possible since its 20+GB. Then someone explained in length how to write .xml files with a link inside to point to one picture. One picture. The answers got weirder and crazier and by the time I came back to myself I was losing it.

Wholesome@reddthat.com•Weekly chat thread... what are some good things going on this week?
3·1 month agoLast week was perfect fall weather! Almost no clouds or rain, 10-15°C and sunny all the time.
This is actual good life advice thanks for that. Sucks it’s too much facts and not enough context though.
Had to look 67 up and Wikipedia is killing me
Multiple news outlets like Business Insider have considered the meme to be a part of the wider “brain rot” phenomenon—the spread of media considered to be poor quality.

What I don’t get is some European people want this. I know some who would take their car for everything even when walking was more convenient.
