I joined Lemmy back in 2020 and have been using it as qaz@lemmy.ml until somewhere in 2023 when I switched to lemmy.world. I’m interested in systemd/Linux, FOSS, and Selfhosting.

  • I usually pick Rust for CLI tools because:

    1. It’s statically compiled and isn’t dependent on system binaries and won’t break if there if the system has the wrong version like C/C++, allowing you to distribute it as a single binary without any other installation steps
    2. Still produces fairly small binaries unlike languages like Java or C# (because of the VM)
    3. Is a modern language with a good build system (It’s like night and day compared to CMake)
    4. And I just like how the language works (errors as values etc.)

    AFAIK:

    • Dismissing reports never federates
    • Post removals almost always federate
    • Bans almost always federate
    • Reports usually federate

A post on 196@bhz removed from .world will be federated properly in my experience, but post removals from something like Kbin seem to be less likely to federate.

  • Some other AP platforms such as Kbin have many issues with federating reports and even bans / content removals. Some Lemmy instances don’t federate reports due to defederation and some don’t federate due to reasons that are still unknown. It’s even possible for the community’s host instance to not get any reports in some cases. It has happened before that after adding an alt, 80+ reports became visible that weren’t visible from any other instance.

All in all, federation related to modding still feels really spotty and I often encounter weird problems, such as vanishing / inconsistent modlogs, reports not resolving (resolving reports doesn’t actually federate, which is quite annoying), and plethora of other issues. It seems that so far the Lemmy devs have bren busy with other things and thus mods have had to learn to deal with it with various scripts and bots.

I have been planning on making a post discussing this, but I’m waiting for the problematic posts and images to be removed first.

(Also I have to go soon so I didn’t have time to read the full discussion)

“and you have to pay for it when I’m in prison.”

So? The state is liable for all medical expenses? If someone breaks a leg they also have to fix it. And even if you deem mental problem’s differently, other drugs required for a prisoners mental well-being like anti-depressants are also provided.

“You have to let me play sports against biological girls. You can’t make me play sports against boys - it has to be girls”

Would you let a trans boy play in a girls team? Seems rather unfair to me.

Trans women that demand to use the women’s restrooms before they are effectively transitioned.

And? What’s the problem with that? And even if a ciswoman walks into a men’s bathroom, what’s going to happen? The age old tradition of gendered toilets is not some divine ruling that’s going to make the rivers bleed if broken. Unless of course you’re referring to something else, but you wouldn’t do that right?
