No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If you could make a magic wish so that your crush liked you, would you do it?English
201·5 days agoI’m pretty sure she likes me already. Enough to stick around for the last 25+ years, anyway.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•A high frequency of the word "exciting" is one hallmark of boring meetingsEnglish
17·6 days agoI once worked for a CFO who used the word “phenomenal” so much that a drinking game around that word would be classified as a mass casualty event.

31·9 days agoThere are reports from every state, including Hawaii.
Some obvious jokes, but somehow there are true believers across the continent.

232·11 days agoThere was a full news cycle of tech folks talking about how “they are so in demand, they sold out instantly.” Build the hype with free press.
Valve has enough experience with this to know exactly what they were doing.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Are all millionaires, Billionaires, CEOS and wealthy people famous?English
1·14 days agoI don’t think I could even pick the CEO of my own employer out of a lineup.
There are something like 24 million millionaires in the US, and over 50 million worldwide.
“Famous” is relative, but its safe to say most people have never heard more than a tiny fraction of those names.
Under the section for the leaders of each side. The six men who led the escape include the three killed in the attempt, two more executed for their roles, and Clarence Carnes.
Bernard Coy †.
Joseph Cretzer †.
Marvin Hubbard †.
Sam Shockley Executed.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The perfect Bond villain owns the James Bond franchiseEnglish
52·20 days agoI said this when he bought Bond and the Washington Post.
Bezos is basically Elliot Carver from Tomorrow Never Dies: billionaire media mogul who manipulates the news to his own ends.
Slight tangent, but Elon Musk is even more like Hugo Drax of Moonraker: foreign-born billionaire who owns a rocket company and is obsessed with repopulating the earth with his own offspring.
Deep Thoughts by Werner Herzog.

63·24 days agoThe real version isn’t a ton better, but his head is less slumped over, and may have just been caught mid-blink.

There’s enough other evidence that he falls asleep during meetings that there’s no need to exaggerate this one.
Edit: This is why this comm has rules. Links to trustworthy news sources, not just random unverified dunks.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are we building an alternative to billionaire platforms or just a quieter version of them?English
111·24 days agoJust so I’m getting this straight,
Being in control of your feed = “echo chambering yourself”.
Looking at everything = “very angry people flooding the platform with their negativity and extremist views”.You do you.

10·1 month agoIt’s easy to set up any number of seemingly impossible situations if you start with the premise of a super entity that can accurately predict the future.
What you’re given is [Ridiculous Assumption] + [Normal Situation] = [Paradox]
But the trick is to quickly gloss over the [Ridiculous Assumption] and frame it as [Normal Situation] = [Paradox]

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Valve Could Add a 30-Day Price History to Steam GamesEnglish
6·1 month agoThey also have a browser extension to put some additional info right on the steam store pages.
Not the entire price history, but it will show the lowest ever price, and the last time it happened. Even if Valve puts a 30-day history on the page, this would still be useful to know if a game ever gets discounts deeper than whatever it had most recently.

Guess I’ll have to limit myself to the 10,000 other games to play on PC, then.
