The short of it is containers are useful in that you, the user, don’t need to know bow the application runs or what its dependencies are- all you need to know is how to access it (what host port, your machine, will you map to the container’s application port and what host storage do you map to the container’s storage).
There are more capabilities/advantages beyond this, but that’s the 1000-level view. Also basically just ignore docker run and focus on docker compose scripts- they’re better practice and I think conceptually make more sense when learning the ecosystem initially
