I’m American and while I deplore how we are treating our allies, I absolutely am looking forward to a stronger more independent Europe. America has been the big bully for far too long. It’s time for other Western countries to become just as powerful and influential.

I think Europe unifying over this awful situation is the best response to hope for, but I will never believe that fractured alliances improve anyone’s situation and so I struggle with “stronger”… Stronger in relation to what? I’d much rather that the unity between the US and EU remained strong and Europe also fortified it’s defenses over this situation we are currently in, that is truly stronger.

Stronger, maybe stronger than if it didn’t respond at all, sure. Certainly weaker than if it could continue to have the US as an ally while making these changes. And in my opinion the US also is weaker now than it was before losing the confidence in the alliance of the EU, let alone the weakness all over the US because it is being actively attacked by it’s own leader.

The fact this YouTube shows the problem. YouTube is Google and an American tech monopoly. An independent Europe can’t be dependent on the US.
