ā€¢ We will learn that the episode title, ā€œJinaalā€, is a characterā€™s name. Trek has had several episodes where the title was simply a characterā€™s name:

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ ā€œCharlie Xā€

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ ā€œMiriā€

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ ā€œBemā€

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ ā€œSarekā€

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ ā€œEnsign Roā€

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ ā€œAquielā€

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ ā€œDaxā€

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ ā€œMeloraā€

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ ā€œJetrelā€

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ ā€œShakaarā€

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ ā€œTuvixā€

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ ā€œAliceā€

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ ā€œRajiinā€

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ ā€œSuā€™kalā€

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ ā€œVƶxā€

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ Tangentially, the season four VOY episode ā€œOneā€ does not share itā€™s name with the Borg drone named One; that episode was called ā€œDroneā€ and was part of season five.

ā€¢ We see assembled outside of Federation HQ:

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ USS Discovery A - Crossfield-class refit

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ Two Saturn-class starships

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ A Friendship-class starship

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ USS Nobel, NCC-325002 - 32nd century Constitution-class; first seen in ā€œThat Hope is You, Part 2ā€

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ An unnamed 32nd century Constitution-class starship

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ A Courage-class starship

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ A Mars-class starship

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ A starship of the same class as the USS Dresselhaus

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ USS Locherer, NCC-325062 - Merian-class; named for J.P. Locherer, a cinematographer credited on every episode of seasons two, three, and four of DIS, who passed away in 2022.

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ There is a shuttle type that I donā€™t believe weā€™ve seen before flying between ships as well.

ā€¢ The Emerald Chain was the primary antagonist of DIS season three.

ā€¢ ā€Have you tried Vulcan meditation yet? Helped you as a kid.ā€ Culber is reminding anyone in the audience who may have forgotten that despite being human, Burnham was raised on Vulcan, as established in the series premiere, ā€œThe Vulcan Helloā€.

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ When Burnham does attempt Vulcan meditation, she holds her palms together, fingers apart in the position of the Vulcan salute. Spock held his hands the same way while meditating in ā€œStar Trek: The Wrath of Khanā€.

ā€¢ Tilly claims that Trill is, ā€A very big planet,ā€ citing its surface area of 500 million kmĀ²; Earth has a surface area of 510.1 million kmĀ².

ā€¢ Adira says of the Bix symbiont, ā€It would be unusual for one to live 800 years, but not completely unheard of.ā€ Adira is host to the Tal symbiont, one of whose former hosts appeared to be a Starfleet captain, shown in ā€œForget Me Notā€ wearing the uniform introduced after 2382, and phased out by 2401, some 790 years before this episode.

ā€¢ Rayner has taken a demotion to commander from the previous episode, where he was still a captain. At least until Admiral Vance asked him to voluntarily retire.

ā€¢ Lieutenant Arav has been aboard the Discovery since the season one episode, ā€œContext Is for Kingsā€, but this is the first time the character has been named.

ā€¢ Itā€™s Jett Reno! From Star Trek! Jett is played by Tig Notaro.

ā€¢ Jett keeps her collar open, and the closure is bisected in half, but when we see Culber with his collar open, the closure remains a single piece.

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ The uniform the Ferengi bartender wears does not have a collar at all.

ā€¢ Raktajino is a Klingon coffee, first mentioned in ā€œDaxā€

ā€¢ Guardian Xi was introduced in ā€œForget Me Notā€. He has been portrayed by Andreas Apergis.

ā€¢ The Caves of Makā€™ala were introduced in ā€œEquilibriumā€.

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ Some of the stalagmites in the cave bear a striking resemblance to the rock Kirk used as a weapon in ā€œWhat Are Little Girls Made Of?ā€

ā€¢ Hey, itā€™s Gray! From Star Trek! Gray is played by Ian Alexander.

ā€¢ The Zhianā€™tara is a Trill ritual where the mind of a former Trill host is transferred into the body of another person so they may communicate directly with the current host, as seen in ā€œFacetsā€.

ā€¢ The favinit is a plant native to Vulcan. Tuvok showed Janeway a a hybrid he made using a favinit and an orchid in ā€œAlliancesā€.

ā€¢ The Vulcan purists are an isolationist faction on Niā€™Var introduced in ā€œUnification IIIā€

ā€¢ A cabrodine explosive was used to destroy Keiko Oā€™Brienā€™s school aboard Deep Space 9 in ā€œIn the Hands of the Prophetsā€.

ā€¢ Jinaal mentions the Dominion war, which puts the timeframe in which he and the other scientists decided to hide the Progenitorā€™s technology sometime from 2373 to 2375.

ā€¢ ā€Something about the curves of a 23rd century Constitution-class just gets me.ā€ Rhysā€™ sentiment echoes across centuries, in ā€œThe Bountyā€ Jack Crusher claimed, *ā€œIā€™m definitely a Constitution-class man.ā€

ā€¢ The Dakalan bore worm was a concern for the crew of the NX-01 in ā€œRogue Planetā€.

ā€¢ Tongo is a Ferengi game introduced in ā€œRules of Acquisitionā€.

ā€¢ We learn Nilsson has been reassigned to the USS Voyager J. Nilsson was introduced in season two played by Sara Mitich, who also played Airiam in season one.

ā€¢ Nilsson apparently gave Christopher her pet tribble. In season one, Lorca had a tribble in his ready room, and in season four, there was an unattended tribble in the corridors of Discovery in ā€œKobayashi Maruā€.

ā€¢ ā€Last time I did this, they have me chips.ā€ Reno is presumably referring to her interrogation upon the Discovery locating Federation HQ in ā€œDie Tryingā€.

ā€¢ ā€We literally used to be connected.ā€ After his death, seen in ā€œForget Me Notā€, Gray lived on as part of the Tal symbiont in Adira until his consciousness was transferred into a synth golem body in ā€œChoose to Liveā€.

ā€¢ ā€Itā€™s really pissed off.ā€ ā€œWe didnā€™t need empathy powers to tell us that.ā€ The coffin turning over that the episode briefly cuts to appears to be that of Deanna Troi, shipā€™s counselor aboard the USS Enterprise D, and the USS Titan.

ā€¢ Slug-o-Cola is a Ferengi beverage, introduced in ā€œProfit and Laceā€. The bottle the bartender pours for Tilly features the 32nd century Ferengi Alliance emblem from ā€œā€¦But to Connectā€.

ā€¢ This is the first time weā€™ve heard the name Redā€™s used for the Discovery Aā€™s piano lounge.

ā€¢ The Tzenkethi have never been seen on screen, only mentioned in dialogue. First in ā€œThe Adversaryā€ where we learn they had a conflict with the Federation that Captain Sisko fought in.

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ Beta canon sources are remarkably inconsistent about the depiction of the Tzenkethi, though Robert Hewitt Wolfe, co-writer of ā€œThe Adversaryā€, envisioned them as ā€heavily-armoured lizard things.ā€

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ In the ā€œInfinite Bureaucracyā€ from the ā€œStrange New Worlds VIIā€ anthology of short stories, they are described as being catlike, similar to the Kzinti.

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ In the Typhon Pact novels the Tzenkethi are tall, attractive humanoids with a wide range of pigmentation, who have fluid filled sacs instead of bones.

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ ā€œStar Trek Onlineā€ shows Tzenkethi characters as being stocky, four armed salamander like beings.

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ The recent IDW ā€œStar Trekā€ ongoing series had the Tzenkethi very recently appear to be large, bipedal dinosaurs.

Ā Ā Ā  ā€¢ I mention all this only to express the hope that if we actually get an on screen Tzenkethi in the upcoming episode, it does not resemble any of the previous depictions. Or the dinoaurs.

Culber is reminding anyone in the audience who may have forgotten that despite being human, Burnham was raised on Vulcan

Yā€™know, I was wondering if this central aspect to her entire character would ever come up again.

Trips me up every. Single. Time.

Jett keeps her collar open, and the closure is bisected in half, but when we see Culber with his collar open, the closure remains a single piece.

Magical Starfleet uniforms keep me up at night.

Tuvok showed Janeway a a hybrid he made using a favinit and an orchid in ā€œAlliancesā€.

Tuvok and hybrids involving orchids, name a better trio.

Edit: obligatory picture of the Star Trek Online Tzenkethi. Look upon them and tremble.

A picture of the Tzenkethi as seen in Star Trek Online. There is one close-up, one picture of the back of the creature, and one picture of the front, from the top of the head to the knees. The Tzenkethi are purple, four-armed reptilian creatures with a horn in the centre of their forehead. Portions of their body are covered in high-tech armour, while other portions are left exposed.

Could you add the series name and season/episode number when youā€™re referring to past episodes? I also miss your Suggested Viewing section! Thx.
