Roasted potato has to be on top, but hot chips (not shoestring, proper hot chips deep fried) and potato chips are close behind. I like a good wedge with sour cream too, and mashed potato has its place.
Hey, I’m having all the feels about this. Things like Myers–Briggs I get different results on different days. Stupid questions like the library/party one. I work in a bloody library this question does not work.
I won’t argue. I reckon potato quality has been declining for years. I’ve tried all the supermarket ones and ones from green grocers and I just can’t replicate the fluffiness and flavour of baked or roast potatoes I remember from decades ago. Where. Are. The. GOOD. Potatoes.
Shoestring fries are probably my favourite. But they’re unhealthy so need to be eaten in moderation, same for crisps.
Wedges can be risky. I’ve had a bunch that haven’t been cooked well. They’re easy to prepare at home but isn’t that just kinda a rustic style roast?
Mashed, serves a purpose as a side, base or pie crust. You can zhoosh it up with things like cheese, garlic and bacon then feed it to your GF while she’s having a hard time.
Roast - Classic.
Boiled - Intermediary state. Reminds me of of culinary devoid Irish grandma.
Scollop potato Like a cheese and potato bake, makes me think of celebratory meals, eg. xmas.
Potato Gratin. Tried the aldi one once and it was okay but one of my favourite things about potato is that it’s cheap.
I have a house of mash potato loving fiends, so most days I cook mash.
Myself I am partial to roast potatoes and who doesn’t love a shoestring fry.
Wedges as a side to a robust manly meal like brisket, and I will admit to loving a boiled or even microwaved spud with salt, butter and chives.
I make a beautiful potato scallop bake, never got on the gratin train but love a potato rosti.
My favourite crisps are original salted crinkle cut.
There is no bad potato in my book. The perfect addition to any meal in any form.

Wedges w/ sour cream and sweet chilli would be # 1 for me.
Jacket potato with butter, cheese, sour cream, bacon and spring onion, chilli, pepper & salt would be mine.
Oh and you forgot baked and croquettes and…
I have this one from across the ditch
There maybe more.
I have the family circle one, and the potato covered scotch egg meatloaf is a regular feature on our menu.
Do you recall when it was a magazine and kids cuckoo club?
Nope, I think i inherited the cookbook from my mums then partners kitchen (after his wife moved out… complicated times!)

Impossible. I’d give a different answer depending on my hunger level, hormones, companion, or it just being a Tuesday.
I’m with you - it’s impossible to rank
Where is microwave’d potato? This is a farce
Travesty

Now I really want potato.
S’cuse me teacher, I do not understand your question. Can you please explain your question in more detail regarding ranking?

Baked potato is best.
However the potato variety in Australia is pretty bad.
Proper baking potatoes (Russett?) and Yukon Gold potatoes for mashing are top tier.
Y’all can argue, but you’d be wrong.

Roast potato. The crispy edges are delicious.
Mashed potatoes. Nothing nicer with home made gravy.
Chips with mayo from the fritkot off Grande Place.
